Here's how I see the 14 man roster as of today:

    Yao
    T-Mac
    Artest
    Alston
    Battier
    Scola
    Brooks
    Landry
    Hayes
    Barry
    Wafer
    Head
    Dorsey (possibly sent to NBDL)
    Francis (possible buyout for retirement)
    (Mutumbo - if SF "retires")

    Changes? Corrections?

It looks accurate but I don't think signing Mutombo hinges on whether or not Francis retires.

I didnt even include francis because frankly i doubt he'll even see any minutes ever again as a rocket.

As for artest being the best, well he maybe the best way player in the nba, but mcgrady is more dominante on the offensive side plus with his ability to setup the offense and extract points and double teams at will he is our best player. yao is more dominante to. Artest is without a shadow of a doubt our best player, but the best is pushing it.

Without a shadow of doubt, your English is very confusing.

the way i see it is that cutting down to 14 is a clear sign that deke will join sooner rather than later.

since strawberry's contract was non guaranteed cutting him means cutting his salary off the cap. that puts the total roster salary at $69.2M. the LT is set at $71.1M. there is now $1.9M to work with under the LT, IOW enough to offer deke more than the vet min ($1.3) which he said he wouldn't sign for.

Imagine the defensive prowess of this lineup:

    Alston
    Artest
    Battier
    Hayes
    Mutombo

Literally, no layups... or much of anything else, for that matter.

    McGrady 30
    Alston 35

    Landry 20
    Battier 30

Feigen has been writing that he's been told the Rockets are around $2M over LT.

Gauging an estimate of the Rocket's team salary is hard mostly because of the conflicting numbers concerning McGrady's salary and that there's no estimate of Landry's salary yet.

Taking a guess at Landry's pay, say it's $3M. I would estimate the Rockets team salary to be around $73.42M. That'd be $2.26M over LT.

With Oklahoma and possibly Orlando being the only teams who have a realistic chance of trading their TEs, and not going over LT themselves from making such a trade. I'd say the Rockets would need to trade multiple players including either one of Battier or Alston to get under LT.
