I hate doing Links. Basically. . . . Clay Aiken reaches over and cover's Kelly Ripa's Mouth and then Kelly tells him it is a NO NO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pD3LAgehTqc rosie Says it was a homophobic Act. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7cDen6Cteo Rocket River
Ahh, I think Ripa accidently made a mistake with the "I don't know where that hand has been" comment. Was it homophobic? I don't think so... But wait... when did Clay Aiken come out ? I guess Rosie O'donnell made a mistake there, as well. But...meh, it's just talk show nonsense...
Fifty years ago we'd have Clay upside-down with a f**king fork up his a$$. He's a fa**ot!! Oh wait, I'm sorry that was just pure rage.
I sort of like Rosie, actually - she is unwatchable, but at least she speaks her mind. As for the joke: 1. Kelly Ripa was probably thinking about him shaking hands with audience members, having germs, etc, i dont think she meant it as a gay joke. 2. Which is too bad, because I sort of thought it was funny when i read it. I think it would not be "homophobic" to make that joke - phobia suggests you are fearful - that joke would have been pretty fearless if she had made it on purpose and stuck by it. 3. Humor about isms and Phobia can be tricky business - when a joke is not funny, it looks bad, and reflects somethingn nasty. But a "racist" comedian like Sarah Silverman can be coarse and brutal in her humor (about race, sex, intolerance, stereotypes, etc) that it acutally illuminates something important - itis mocking the casual racist or homophobe, not the race or homosexual. It can be done, but it is a powerful, hiigh risk tool. Borat is the obvious contemporary example. You better be good if you are going to joke about anything like that. Obviously, Kelly Ripa is not a sophisticated comedienne, and would not be able to stand by that joke even if she meant to say it. But on paper, I thought that joke looked funny, and not in a mean spirited way.
1. I can't believe I just watched that stupid sh*t. 2. Some of the comments on those Youtube links are downright scary. And sad.
I'm lost. Why exactly does putting a hand over a mouth equate to homosexuality? Can someone help me out? UrbanDictionary maybe?
