If we get Mo Taylor in the next couple
of days would you try to get Rice to sign for the exception? Lineup:

    Cato
    Taylor
    Rice
    Anderson/Mobley
    Franchise

Nope. Rice is too old, would demand the ball too much, and really disgraced himself in the playoffs last year. There was no excuse for opening his mouth when he did. Besides, his talents are declining.

I can't see him signing for the exception. He has too high an opinion of himself.

I'm confused - I thought we were going to be signing Mo for the exception... what does that leave us to pay Rice with?? The 1million dollar exception??

    So was Taylor. [IMG]

On the subject, I would not want Rice here at all. Rice's defense is about twice as bad as Taylor's, who so many people seem to put down. Rice is a one dimensional player who is aging, and also complains when he doesn't get to be the top option. He also is not the long term answer at his age. Personally, I don't see very much of a difference between Glen Rice and Walt Williams. If so many of you hate Walt like you say, why bring in a player very similar to him?

The Cat: I certainly don't want Rice, but Walt Williams never averaged 27 pts per game.

I can forgive alot of defensive shortcomings for 27 points per game... I just don't think Rice has any more great seasons left.

Rice certainly doesn't have 27ppg in him anymore [IMG]

I don't see him doing anything for the team that Walt and Langhi combined won't do - not to say that either of them was/ will be ever as good as him, just that they are not much worse right now!!

    Haven,

I meant the Glen Rice NOW is very similar to Walt. Of course I didn't mean back in Glen's glory days he was comparable to Walt. I'm just talking about who would make a difference for the Rockets this next season, and for next season I don't see at this point a whole lot of differences between Walt and Rice.

    Good one, Cat. [IMG]

Yet I think this argument holds more water when speaking of Rice. I still think he fully believes that he's worthy of a relatively large contract.
In addition, teams are more likely to ask for his services due to his impressive resume and decent contribution to the Lakers last season. I think some might even see him as coming back to his old All-Star form given the complete control of the offense.

I personally don't think he would come here for $2.5 million nor do I want him. As some have mentioned, he is one dimensional and his skills are fading fast. What would be the point of getting him at his age? The rebuilding process calls for young stars and dependable veterans. Rice would call too much attention and touches at this point. We don't need him.

Rice isnt worth max or anything, but my attitude is just the same as it is to taylor. if he wants the exception then i would be more than happy 2 give it to him. cuz thats the best well get with that kind of money and who knows someone else might want rice. and we could still get a quality player in exchange 4 him. champion ship team with francis, anderson, cato, mobley, taylor and rice? i think so. maybe [IMG]

So are you saying that you believe Walt could of averaged 16 ppg on that Lakers squad? [IMG]

He barely cold average 10 ppg on a pretty bad Team last year and it took a hot last 20 games for him to get that high.

Rudy took him out of the rotation completely for about a month's time too. His scoring average would have been higher if not for that. And yes, Walt did hit a slump to cause that. But I don't think that makes him worse than Rice. Everybody goes cold at some point.

Also, a good part of the reason Rice's average is that high is when he got to be the #2 option for over the first month with Kobe hurt. Look at the players overall skills. Walt is probably a better dribbler than Rice is, about even in driving to the hole, about even in shooting, about even in defense, etc. I don't see where Rice is that much better.
