"The NBA turned over the responsibility of choosing the two nine-man rosters to 14 former players and coaches who work as broadcasters. Votes are due Tuesday and the teams are scheduled to be announced Thursday.

"Last season the competition to get selected for the Rookie Challenge became so intense we decided future teams would be chosen by an independent group of experts," NBA Deputy Commissioner Russ Granik said.

This season's second-year group is expected to include New Jersey's Richard Jefferson, the Grizzlies' Pau Gasol, Utah's Andrei Kirilenko, San Antonio's Tony Parker and Indiana's Jamaal Tinsley. Seattle's Vladimir Radmanovic and Predrag Drobnjak, Miami's Malik Allen, Chicago's Tyson Chandler, Washington's Kwame Brown, Houston's Eddie Griffin and Memphis' Shane Battier are among the other hopefuls."

Could we see a Eddie vs. Yao matchup in the paint?

We couldn't because Yao is gonna play the ASG so he will skip this game but I hope EG can make it.

I'm pretty sure if you're an all-star, you skip this game.

Players in the All-Star game are specifically not allowed to play in the Rookie game.

Ah ok, thank you. In my time I haven't seen many rookies worthy of all-star status.

Ming would dominate the rookie game, I mean really, who would defend him?

Yao could also dominate the ASG if they play him enough mins. I mean the East frontcourt have Ben Wallace, JO and Vince Carter. Yao has already blocked them all at WBC and Olympics.

    :D

I much rather like the idea of Yao showcasing some sweet passes for monster Dunks by other All-Stars than for him to dominate in a child's game. And yes, the rookie game is a child's game compared to the allstar game.

    All-Star or Rookie game....hmm, wow, toughie......All-Star Game!

I just want to see atleast one *special pass from Yao to Garnett, Kobe, or Steve for an athletic dunk.

*Special - extraordinary, such as "the slap pass"...you know the one! Or some of his over the shoulder no look passes, I guess they would due.... :D :D

The rookies will not win because when you look at it , other than Amare they don't have a great player who can dominate the game for them

And the sophomores will throw Pau Gasol double and triple teams on him in the post.

i guess Amare will win Rookie mvp most likely. Yao will probably play then gets overshadowed by Shaq down the stretch. Kobe will probably win MVP again because he'll hog the ball like last year. Oh well.

The Rookie All Star game is basically an offensive showcase. Nobody plays D in the Rooks and Sophs game.

I tell ya, I don't know how many times I've marveled at the defensive intensity of the regular All Star Game...
