Had some good information on the new guys. http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/scouting_the_rockets_rookies__2009_10_02.html I hope Chase doesn't end up being Steve Novak...
Well, the crazy athleticism part probably makes Steve novak part II the least of your worries...I like the you Brent Barry comparison everyone makes sounds promising
Probably code for "he isn't going to make the team". If so, too bad. Sounds a little like the second coming of Bobby Sura.
I hope so. We heard soo much about Steve Novak and how he was like the best shooter any of them saw...
Budinger is going to have a VERY long career, with athleticism and smarts....he will play for a long long time, and might even become an all star....he just has that "IT" quality about him. DD
Budinger has a much more all around game than Novak could dream of. Novak is strictly a shooter(a great one) but nothing else. Budinger is a little under Novak in terms of shooting but he has an immense advantage in athleticism, basketball IQ, passing, speed, and everything else. The reward of Budinger being able to play adequate defense is much larger than if Novak could. I just hope Budinger can commit to playing defense because he could be quite a player given his offensive skill set.
People are really making this a lot harder on themselves in forcing inappropriate comparisons by limiting the field to only other "white" guys. His game nor skillset is nothing like that of Brent Barry or Steve Novak. What Chase has is the all-around polished offensive game characteristic of most quality small forwards (whether they be black, white, brown, green etc.). He has athleticism, good size, a good shot, and enough handles to maneuver his way for an easier shot (ie: he's not a stiff like Novak). Conversely, he doesn't have the full blown handles, vision, or passing characteristic of NBA guards. Simply put, Chase Budinger is your typical NBA small forward.
thacabbage, I understand where you're coming from but the Rockets personal compared his skillset of a Brent Barry's. I brought up Novak because of all the praise Chase has gotten so far. Novak got a lot of praise during his rookie campaign and nothing really came out of it. Now what I will say is this... we won't know how good he can be until he gets out on that court and play a meaningful game. That's the end all be all.
well, to Novak's credit, he did save the winning streak by drilling that 3 against Sac town... thanks Novak!
Budinger reminds me of Brent Barry the way he moves off the ball, does hard cuts, and makes good decisions with the ball. It has nothing to do with his ethnicity, and everything to do with his style.... DD
I can't wait to see Budinger play. I mean I have seen him play before and not once did I notice explosiveness or quickness. I saw Arizona go zone a couple of times just to compensate for the guy. What I did see was the ability to jump. The guy can jump. But athletic? I never saw full-package athleticism. Meaning if the guy couldn't shoot he wouldn't be in the league IMO. But apparently everyone else is seeing some insane amount of athleticism so I will wait and see. I just think people are confusing leaping ability with athleticism. Or at least being fooled by it.
I would have said Reggie Miller or Rip Hamilton, as they move well, but Budinger passes better...... Brent Barry is the only guy that comes to mind....as someone who moves AND passes well.... Tmac would be like that, but he doesn't move off the ball... I think Budinger is going to be REALLY good......he just looks like a player that has been the best on the floor at every level, and he looks like he might do that at the next level too. DD
why did you have to put the kiss of death on Bud? why? haven't you learned already? when will this madness end?
Durv, That is funny......but I never liked Novak all that much......I will give you: VSpan Langhi & Boki DD
He reminds me of mike miller regardless of color. He's proba bly a better linear athlete, not sure if he handles as well as miller. His test is going to be is whether he will compete to defend or stand up in crunch time.
