Rookie of the year award will go to?
Steve Francis is a sure win, but if how for some reason he doesn't win then we can all know that the NBA is rigged! Or that David Stern has something stuck up his A$$. Rookie of the year will be rewarded to the first Rocket since 84's Ralph Sampson!

They may not give it to him because of his behavior at the Draft.

    Which would be a shame.

    RR,

I think the league has had a bit of a change of heart recently about lil' stevie. Just look at the allstar weekend! Francis is doing the slam dunk, 2ball and rookie game.

How much more can the league push this guy out there?

Got this today in the Rockets e-mail newsletter and the numbers that Francis is putting up make him look like a shoe-in. Let's hope he continues to improve and then there will be no doubt!

    Measuring Up To The Past
Over the last 20 years, four points guards have won Rookie of the Year honors in the NBA: Mark Jackson in 1988, Jason Kidd in 1995, Damon Stoudamire in 1996 and Allen Iverson in 1997. Steve Francis, who currently ranks first among NBA rookies in points and assists, is putting up numbers comparable to these award winners. The four point guards prior to Francis posted averages of 16.8 points (on .416 shooting), 4.6 rebounds, 8.8 assists and 1.99 steals, statistics similar to Houston's rookie. Below is a look at the Rookie of the Year point guards' statistics in comparison to Francis':

Player, Team (Year) PTs FG % REB Asst Steals
    Mark Jackson, Knicks (88) 13.6 .432 4.8 10.6 2.50
    Jason Kidd, Mavericks (95) 11.7 .385 5.4 7.7 1.91
    Damon Stoudamire, Raptors (96) 19.0 .426 4.0 9.3 1.40
    Allen Iverson, 76ers (1997) 23.5 .416 4.1 7.5 2.07
    Steve Francis, Rockets (2000) 17.9 .450 4.8 7.1 1.49

It's funny that Jason Kidd's stats look like the worst in the group, but he has become easily the best player of them all (until Francis proves me wrong, that is).

It is also funny that Stoudimire might have had the best and he is now the worst (sans maybe MJ).

That would be stupid he acted that way because he could, he knew what kind of a player he was and he thought he was going to be drafted ny the Bulls and he was angry because he knew he was the best player coming out of the draft.
