definitely a bold move by purpura watching all these bats that we wanted slip away to 1 year deals worth $5 (yes $5).

Well I'm sure that Timmah and The Unc' know what they are doing. Remember, its early and we should never question management.

Honestly though, we couldn't scrap together 3.25 mill for White? Are you ****ing kidding me?

Then $6 mill for Nomar? That's chump change compared to what Uncle Drayton got in the damn World Series.

Where would you play them? With Bagwell's future uncertain, it's hard to make a move to sign guys like this. Not to mention, would White have signed here knowing there was a decent shot he wouldn't see too much playing time (unless they bench Lane or Taveras, which I don't think they want to do)? We were the reported second choice for Nomar, but he went with his hometown team.

I have no problem with anyone questioning management. It's the non-stop questioning that I can't stand. Hell, I question the management quite a bit around my friends because they're not doom and ****ing gloom all the time. We made a historic run last year and most of the people here were still b****ing about one thing or another last year. Basically, I feel sorry for those folks that couldn't enjoy the 2005 season without crying about something...about 95% of you.

Well, I don't think he sucks, but you bring up a good point. The same people b****ing that we didn't sign Rondell White would be b****ing if they signed him. Some people just can't be happy and I truly feel sorry for them. It really must suck to go through life carrying such negativity. :(

Both the Twins (White) and Dodgers (Nomar) overpaid. I agree that someone needs to be brought in. However, they aren't going to make a move for the sake of making a move. White's deal is for $8 mil over 2 years. No, that isn't worth being stuck with a guy who will, at best, play 120 games.

Yea that was pretty much my point. You see this every offseason. Joe Fan sees that Scrubby McHackington is available and is screaming "SIGN HIM!" out of sheer boredom and anxiety.

Rondell White is not the answer to our scoring woes. I think the team will make an evaluation on Bagwell after spring training and then swing a deal if need be. Probably best to wait till the Royals are out of the race (June) and snag Mike Sweeney to play first if Jeff can't.

Yep, and as evidenced in other threads, our scoring woes weren't that bad once Berkman was back and completely healthy.

    Sweeney would be money!

Where were you planning on playing Rondell White? Keep in mind, Lane is better than Rondell White.

People need to get over their obsession with mediocre players who a name they recognize, but stats worse than the guys they'd be replacing.

and for those who complained about us not scoring on the last game of the World Series... maybe they just got great pitching? They only scored 1 on us in that last game as well. They just did what is enough to win the games. Don't forget what the CWS rotation did to Anaheim as well.

Not me. I'm in love with Rondell White, Reggie Sanders, Nomar and basically any .800 OPS potential quality bat in a corner OF slot. I'd be thrilled with any of them, and for the most part, they're gone. There are still a couple left (Burnitz), and there is the trade route, but I'm definitely a little worried. I'm disappointed we didn't make this signing (if we aren't close on a trade) and I would've been very, very pleased if we made it.

I know for the most part the Astros-bashers are filled with negativity, but don't lump everyone into that same group. I love the Astros, like Drayton McLane a lot and I cheer like hell for them. But I'm starting to get very, very nervous about Tim Purpura. That said, the offseason isn't over yet so I'm not going to say too much at this point. But each passing day without any notable news or rumors gets me nervous... I can't help it. :(

But with Bagwell at 1B, Berkman at LF, and Lane in RF, where would you play any of those guys? And if you platoon, who's going to sign to be a backup or part-time player when they can play full-time elsewhere?
