I would like to thank Ron for his shot selection.

Some people think Ron's tendency to go 1 on 5 at random moments is a blemish to his otherwise great package of both offensive and defensive talent. The truth is that we should love Ron for his shot selection.

Without his shot selection, Ron wouldn't even be a Rocket. Bobby Jackson, Donte Green and a late 1st rounder? Are you kidding?

Ron's shot selection is also one major thing that will help scare teams and keep him affordable to the Rockets. Daryl Morey makes cash register sounds in his mind every time Ron goes 1 on 5. So, lets all thank Ron for helping out with the luxury tax situation.

Going 1 on 5 is a part of the Ron package, it gives him his charms and differentiates him from the cookie-cutter stars like James and Bryant. There is nothing to fix.

Ron Artest has to know his shot selection will make him losing the 10+ Mil contract.

    Good one.

But I think his dribbling is even worse.

If there had been a rule in the NBA saying that no ball-dribbling for more than 5 times, Ron would have been one of the biggest stars in the league. But now, he does not even worth the 10 mil he asked for.

Ron is a prototype 6th man player... not good for starters or run plays...

he shoots a lot at a decent percentage... he can use his body to create fouls.. he is selfish (not too bad of a trait for a 6th man)...
and he can create his own shots...

before Tracy went out, he was a damn good fit as a 6th man... not so good as a starter

He's not a defensive player anymore, he's an offensive juggernaut. He's averaging more shots per game than Yao.

he can be a starter on most teams, but not on a contender team imo. and we're not, as is, a championship contender.

plus, he's better at the 3, not 2.

I agree about better at 3 than 2 part. Now it comes to the question what do we do about Shane? I love that guy, but he's been terrible at offense. But on the other hand, if you get Von in the starting lineup and move Ron to 3. You have AB, Ron, and Von there, Yao might as well take the 6th man role, for he's not going to see any ball any more. I think one of the reason Shane is so bad in offensive output right now, besides his shooting slump and hurting ankle, is that he never gets involved any more with AB and Ron looking for their own shots as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd option, then you will have Yao luckily make the 4th option, and Scola for 5th option. There is no play left for Shane, not even as 5th option. He only gets a broken play here and there, maybe an open 3 here and there. With Yao getting less touches, there are less open 3s for Shane as well.

Ron Rons shot selection is plain horrible and he is in his contract year so he thinks he needs to be SUPERMAN and just jacks crap up and wants to take over games when we have our super star Yao Ming already!!! Relax Artest its a team sport its ok to pass the ball dude...........

ron is just not that good as i expected.

the last good team ron was on, he was at most the 3rd best player behind jermaine o'neal and reggie miller (in terms of pecking order). hell, he shared some of that with stephen jackson as 3rd option.

the team he was the best player in--sacto last yr, had no chance.

hell, even this year, i feel scola is actually our 2nd best player.

I agree that Scola is 2nd best or at least most consistent player right now. Slowly, I give up the idea of giving Yao the ball, because every time you advocate that you will get all the excuses how that's all Yao's fault. Let's say it's Yao's fault only that he doesn't get enough shots in lots of games. But what about Scola? He's been 50%+ all year long, nobody doubles him and nobody fronts him. What's the excuse not to give him more shots? We know AB and Ron and Von are always looking for their own shots first, but where is that person with a title of "coach"? Or as some fans are saying, you have to yell to get the ball, Scola has to yell too? I was utterly disgusted by the Lakers game, not only by Yao only got 3 shots in second half after being perfect for 6-6, but also Scola only got 3 shots as well after 6-6.

In fact, the more Scola is involved, the better can Yao operate, because Scola does take a big man with him, which leaves Yao will single coverage or better opportunity for offensive rebounds, instead of those long 3 pointers.

An appreciation for Ron's shot selection is like making an appreciation for Yao's shot blocking.

I think there's nothing wrong with Ron taking weird shots as long as he drives hard to the basket. At least he can draw fouls. If Ron takes it hard to the rim with crazy , reckless abandon it would be more bearable.

At least when his jump shot isn't falling Ron should adjust his game and focus more on driving inside.

Back with the Pacers , he had a very nice finger roll move after driving hard to the rim. I noticed him using it only once in the Spurs game , he got fouled and almost converted on a left handed fingerroll layup.
He also had that strong move against the lakers where he converted a three point play after drawing a foul, shielding the ball with his body and converting the layup.

Especially in the playoffs, Ron will be most valuable if he can draw fouls by driving hard to the basket.
