Not anything thatwe haven't known already, but my god, this article is about the best thing I've read today. Too long to republish but this is just the open, it gets better:

One of the other better bits:

    More brilliance:

Interestingly, while this false revolution of ignorants in America talks up it's game without any semblance of planned policies or methods, the EU is currently facing massive strikes as their governments actually enact reform to curtail their massive debts.

There's no better way to enhance the power of the Tea Party than writing stuff like this. Call them crazy/stupid/racists, whatever works for the moment.

Ridiculing vast swaths of the electorate is not a path to political success. Did the GOP do this after they got stomped in 2008?

as an english major i admire his way with words, for example, "Seemingly every third person in the place is sucking oxygen from a tank or propping their giant atrophied glutes on motorized wheelchair-scooters..." i literally laughed out loud.

Yesterday, I got to listen to a talk by Dr. Stephen Klineberg from Rice University. He heads the Institute for Urban Research and he has an absolute arsenal of statistics that very rapidly illuminate the heart of the matter for angry anglos - the demographic shift is happening, it's happening now, and it's irreversible. By 2040 the entire US will be a majority-minority demographic and, interestingly, Houston is leading the way.

I won't bore you with more details on the talk (it was amazing), but it might be wise for folks who read Sam's article above to also take a look at some of the more interesting statistics compiled by the IUR over the last 29 years, in particular this selection. More reports can be found at the home page for the group.

Fascinating stuff and it really explains why, as Dr. Klineberg repeatedly joked/stated, "minorities need to be patient with anglos" - this is very new territory for old white folks.

And the reforms aren't working - the magic austerity pill is a cure that's worse than the disease, as Ireland is finding out.

Do explain. The last I heard re: Ireland is that their debt was downgraded which (righteously) pissed them off.

(aside: how in the **** do Moody's and S&P still exist? Utter failures...)

I have been saying for months that the tea party was nothing more than the last, dying primal scream of a demographic that is losing its majority status in America. And they're starting to realize it.

It's not true, but even if it was, expressing it will not get the outcome you desire. "You suck" is not a winning political message, even if it wins the approval of Rolling Stone readers.

I did, it was mostly hyperbole and generalization, often times focusing on superficial things like physical appearance, skin tone, age, or method of transport.

"You and I, as individuals, can, by borrowing, live beyond our means, but for only a limited period of time. Why then should we think that collectively, as a nation, we are not bound by that same limitation?" - Ronald Reagan

Yes, actually they did. A number of them told us that we only voted for him because he was black.

We were called "sheeple" because apparently supporting a man who claims he's trying to change politics requires more of a herd mentality than voting in lock-step against every single bill that same man supports (even if you used to support it yourself, or if you show up at ribbon cuttings in your home district after it's passed against your vote).

What Ronny failed to mention is that 'for only a limited period of time' meant 'only when my party is in the White House. If a Democrat is in control, it's time to pretend to be fiscally responsible.'

For starters, you and I, as individuals, can't legally print our own money.

Then why don't you show me the true Tea Party that YOU know, that Taibbi missed? Pretty much every single thing he said is backed by both empirical and anectdotal data.

His takedown was actually very mild and left some of the more openly racist parts of it out....can you find a single thing to refute, other than to whine (suprise, whining, a tea party signature!) about it being "hyperbole"? Do you even knwo what hyperbole means? What parts were hyperbolic and exaggerated? Please answer.

Probably because only an idiot thinks like a 7th grader thinks that these two things are good analogues - I guess that's why Reagan himself ignored it.

They issued less debt that time, and they only did really short term debt. The only ones mentioned are Feb and Apr 2011 - so about 6 months max term. Since the country is pretty well funded in the short-term, I don't think the major concerns are about Ireland defaulting in the next 6 months.

But the latest suggests that Krugman was right so far - at least on the Ireland issue. I'm not really sure how Spain is doing. Here's an article from today:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/09/28/AR2010092806189.html

Fears that Europe could see a Greek-like debt crisis unfold in Ireland or Portugal escalated Tuesday, with investors selling off bonds and analysts warning that both nations might be heading into critical periods that could trigger bids for bailouts.
