Did anybody catch Clemens managing the Yankees today? When he went to take out David Wells, all Wells could do was stand on the mound, look dumfounded, and laugh his ass off as Roger approached the mound. He did give him a big hug though. Anyways... what do you guys think? Maybe not for next year, but in the future sometime (he does live right there in Memorial... and I'm sure a guy like him couldn't stay away from baseball too long). I, honestly, think it would be a perfect fit... the guy knows TODAY'S game well, he know's pitchers, he KNOWS HOW TO CONDITION pitchers (meaning, how they should take care of themselves, etc.), and he knows how to win cy youngs and World Series. Plus, his resume is already more impressive than Dierker's, and its soon approaching Jimy's as well (esp. after his one win today...)
I don't want him to play for the Astros, let alone manage. Remember the things Hunsicker said about him in that press conference? I doubt Clemens would want to manage this team even if he was any good at it.
Well, I don't recall the exact quotes, but what happened was there was serious talks about trading for Clemens. It sounded like it was going to happen, but suddenly, despite the fact that he already had a contract with at least one more year on it, he demanded that as part of any trade we would make for him, he must also have a renegotiated contract so he could make more money. Considering that he was already making a good chunk of change at the time, it was a pretty ridiculous demand, and I think it pissed Hunsicker off to a fare-thee-well. He held a press conference where he lambasted Clemens for the demand, and the whole thing was pretty much shot from there. I was never more proud of Hunsicker than I was that day.
Here, first? Blinebury (or other cron-columnist) wrote of that months ago. Smarter for Clemens stated desires and 'stros would be Roger offering patter on broadcasts. Whooppee. That excites me nearly as much as the prospects for next season.
