First of all, I deserve to be crucified for even going to Crackberry.com, but I can not believe that RIM has not thrown in the towel yet. Also, it appears that these new phones won't even have BES support.

    Sigh.

    Go Android, iOS, and WP7!

    This???

    .......
I hope I can be proved wrong but I doubt "London is about changing the game"

Irony: They took the market from Palm because Palm didn't innovate.

For trying, when it's years too late.

Same company that took forever to get cameras, GPS chips, and 3G connectivity in their phones.

Also, biggest complaint of Blackberry from the IT world is the fact that it didn't support ActiveSync, now it wants to support active sync.

I have no idea how this company and it's new CEO is going to get it together to get people to buy this stuff.

Sure, in the corporate world there's always going to be a presence, but that device definitely looks aimed at consumers.

They're tying to keep up with the times. They always wanted to seperate themselves as the "business" phone but "business people" like to have fun as well. Blackberry just isn't as fun as android or apple.

    From your article:
Why should they throw in the towel?

In other countries they are successful, sure but I'm assuming they're going to get this device in North America.

Why even compete? Stock prices for RIM are atrocious as of late, they just got rid of their co CEO'S. They've been delaying Blackberry 10 for the longest now, and even RIM employees say it's destined to fail. (If I find the link I'll post it)

Also, RIM provides pretty bad developer tools.
I don't see devs flocking to try and support these devices either.

Like I said earlier, I hope they can prove me wrong, that won't bother me, I wouldn't mind them making some sort of a come back, I just think it's too late, and their lack of direction really isn't helping.

Blackberry thought the Playbook would be revolutionary. That didn't turn out so well either.

I am not sure if its really too late, but yes, they are deff deep in the chit

a year ago I was visiting my cuz in Canada, him and his friends/family, all BB users...

I'm like, why aren't you guys on Android, HTC has really nice devices and then there is the IPhone...they were starring at me...lol...so most Canadians stuck with the BB, and I heard its really popular in Asian countries...while here, it has been dwindling down for the past 2/3 years...

what I'm trying to say is that BB didn't catch on the large screen/fancy OS software as soon as others have over the last 4 years...

HTC started it with Sense..then Sammy and Moto came out with great devices..BB just stuck with one product basically..they did come out with a keyboard less full-screen Storm, but it was plagued with issues...

The good ol Blackberry Storm lol. I remember that. Nothing but reboots and reboots.

Who know's what will happen, only time will tell. I will give RIM this though, they have a ton of patents :)

Oh, and speaking of Canadians, this website is hilarious

i wouldn't count them out. they have ~85M subs, deep inroads in corporate and government infrastructure (the latter point making them a highly unlikely takeover target), and QNX, the OS BB10 is built on is rock solid, has been deployed in the automotive world for years.

As a long time user of Blackberry devices (latest torch), I can say that they are totally screwed. I know many fortune 100 companies moving off of BES because its expensive and requires too much maintenance. Consumers aren't going to buy it because there is no eco-system. The blackberry market is crap.

They may keep their footprint in in government but their economies of scale is going to go way down which will make their costs go way up. I see them eventually becoming just a niche software company selling BES to government and corporations. Their hardware team can't keep up with HTC or Samsung so switching to Android or WP7 won't help either.

blackberry's new CEO (promoted from within) want to concentrate on.....marketing?????

They need a big technology win. Their phones are pitiful compared to Android and Apple (and I own one). The security/integration of BES is less and less important to all but the mega orgs. I doubt I'll reup once my contract's done and I don't know anyone who is excited about getting a new blackberry....so expect their numbers to decline even further as those of us on 2-3 yr contracts move on.

Huge demand for Android and iOS developers. Windows... kind of. BB? Declining fast.

Great point. A lot of developers I know absolutely hate dealing with Blackberry.

In fact, I only know one guy who still developers for BB. Name is Lee. He makes "Issimo", a Twitter app.

I just started a new job with a company that is still married to BB. Kind of a major drag because I'm used to Android.

Unfortunately BB is friggin HUUUGEEEE in Asia. This is mainly because of the BBM because some countries don't have text message deals so it's pretty costly to text. BBM is much cheaper, hence the BB fad.

I wish the company would burn.

they refuse to even add threaded text messaging back in 08. Even feature phones were starting to do it then.

i mean why wouldn't apple succeed? other companies didn't have a clue on what consumers wanted.
