PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was injured in a motorcycle accident on Monday morning.

The Steelers confirmed the accident for Channel 4 Action News.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review said the accident happened on Second Avenue near the 10th Street Bridge.

A witness told Channel 4 Action News that Roethlisberger went over the handlebars, hit the windshield of another vehicle and then hit the ground.

Roethlisberger was not wearing a helmet, according to the paper.

Police have closed down the bridge, Second Avenue and the Armstrong Tunnels.

Roethlisberger was taken to Mercy Hospital. There is no word on the extent of his injuries.

Hopefully he'll be alright, it sounds like a very serious accident. He is one of the better talents in the league, I hope he didn't just throw it all away.

There are more than a few, but he's gotta know better than riding a motorcycle without a helmet. This is almost certainly going to be a breach of his contract.

Damn, he got in a wreck right after talking to Lance & John.

When are athletes going to learn to stop ridding bikes?

I don't know if it has anything to do with class, but rothlisberger has openly defied the Steelers by riding that motercycle. I remember Dan Patrick addressing the subject earlier in the year.

I hope he turns out ok. I'm looking to buy a motorcycle soon and hate to hear about things like this.

    Riding without a helmet?

pg- Does Roethlisberger have a no motorcycle clause in his contract?

But either way, you hate to see a young talent like Big Ben, who is also considered a classy player, go down for something like this.

Why do athletes think they are invisible when they are on their toys? If he is riding his bike, he should be wearing a helmet.

I don't remember. i just remember the subject being addressed. I don't want to see anyone regardless of their talent or standing in the community go down. I like Roethlisberger, I'm just relaying that info.

Well motorcycles in general are quite dangerous. Even if he was wearing a helmet, a fall like that can break your arm or leg. The number one patients orthapaedic surgeons see are motorcycle accident victims, who have torn up their muscles and tendons of their hand.

Pretty much every professional contract will have a clause regarding putting yourself in physical danger.
