Hi everyone! I just came across this from SI.com. I personally don't know much about the guy, but I remember David Aldridge on one of his chats saying he wondered why the Houston Rockets never snatched him up. Now we can move Stevie to the 2, and have Strickland , and Mark Jackson as our point guards... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/basketball/nba/03/02/bc.bkn.magic.strickland.ap/index.html
He's shooting 45% which is better than the duo that is currently at the point guard position. He averaged the most assists/48 minutes on the Magic at around 10 a game. I'd put Boki on the injury list, and pick up Strickland.
I haven't followed him this season. He's one of those guys who never "lived up to his potential." But if he still has game, I'd actually have some interest in this one ...
I have been following Strickland for a month (via my fantasy bball team) and it seems like he is getting at least 5 assists in only limited action. He did start behind Tyronne Lue, but more often than not it was Strickland that was finishing the game. The Magic wanted to give their young guys a shot, including DeShawn Stevenson at the point. But this guy would be as good as MJackson is but could get more steals and score a little. I believe today is the last day in which teams can release a player and that player can be eligible for another team's playoff roster. If the Rockets want to give Strickland a chance and if Strickland wouldn't mind Mike Wilks' minutes until he becomes acclimated to the offense, then it would be a good pickup. However, I doubt Rod would come to the Rockets with Mark Jackson and Van Gundy here. I would not rule out the other Texas teams, though.
He was a Knick. I hate to diss Mark Jackson right now, but Strickland is better. now all we need is john Stockton and we'll have the three of the greatest passers ever. and Yao will still only get 10 shots.
Yeah, I'd pick him up. This is a last chance to see what you got with Steve. There's enough investment tied up there that they really ought to see what happens when a quality vet passer plays with him. If they never try it, shame on them.
LOL I know we seem to be picking up everyone's old PG's.. I would still like to have Rod over MJackson (hes just too slow and cant shoot).. at least Rod was still an active player and could contribute to this team beyond just this year. Im tired of seeing opposing guards blow right past Mjax. J
That was my thought. That we were better having two vets behind Francis. Strickland would have enough time to learn the system before the playoffs and give us another look if Francis moves to the 2 or takes a breather. If Strickland wants to get into the playoffs, we'd have to be an attractive option.
I'd rather have him than Mark Jackson. Rod shoots a better percentage and is just as good a passer as Mark.
"HOT" Rod Stickland would be a nice pickup for the Rocks. Even though he isn't a dream, he is still a very capable backup, even more so than MJ.
Yeah sure pick him up. Cut Wilks (is he even on the team anymore?) and atleast it'll temporarily patch up the PG problems. 2 legit reliable PG might actually allow Francis to get some more rest and hopefully he'll find his legs along with his jumper in the process.
At 37 years old, Strickland is too old for this team in the long run and his 3 point shooting has always been subpar anyway. I don't think he adds enough to the team to make aquiring him worth jacking with what little chemistry the Rockets have.
I don't really the see the harm in picking him up. It's not like Wilks is getting a ton of play time, and atleast the Rockets wouldn't have to worry about the Rockets PG woes as much. Having 3 solid PGs coming into the playoffs would be fantastic. Again it's not meant to be a long term deal, but just something to patch the current PG problems the Rockets are having til the offseason.
Hmm...I am getting up there in age, and now I have a chance to go to the best team out there that will take me. I want to win a championship and contribute ... where is my best option? I know, obviously it is with a team struggling to maintain its playoff lead in the East after currently losing nine straight games and whose success hinges upon "Half-Man / Half-a-season" Vince Carter. In other words, I do not think that this is the best option for Rod Strickland to make.
this would actually be a pretty decent pickup for. francis can finally take his shot (pun intended) at the 2 and we'd have two solid guys running the point. in fact, now that i think about it a little more, we'd be stupid not to jump at this opportunity. this is exactly the type of thing we've been b*tching about for what seems like forever. DO IT CD!!!! DO IT NOW!!!
