Washington (AP) – Would Rod Strickland give up $1 million just to be in the playoffs this year? How about $2 million? Or $4 million? The Washington Wizards point guard might have to make that decision Thursday. According to The Washington Post, the Wizards are considering whether to offer to buy out the rest of Strickland's contract for a reduced amount. In exchange, the Wizards would agree to cut Strickland by midnight Thursday, making him eligible for the postseason if he's signed by another team. Strickland's contract expires after next season. He is scheduled to make $10 million, but the Wizards can buy out the final season for $5 million. The Post, citing an unidentified source, said the Wizards and Strickland's agent, David Falk, are discussing a buyout ranging from $1 million to $4 million. The Knicks must be kicking themselves, because if they had waited they may have been able to sign Strickland as a free agent this week instead of the slow, aging Mark Jackson, especially since Strick wanted to go back to NY. ------------------ Rocks2001 in disguise. . .
I don't think Jackson would keep the Knicks from signing Strickland anyway. My questions are: 1) if he is released, won't he be claimed off waivers by somebody? 2) If he is claimed off waivers, who gets first dibs on his services? ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes
