There is an old DOS game that I found recently and have downloaded. I can't stop playing it. It is called Rockstar and is absolutely hilarious. It's all text, but the premise is that you are trying to become a megastar. You decide when to record, tour, practice, vacation, go into drug rehab, take drugs, go to parties, attend orgies, sing or reject record contracts, do publicity junketts, make video's etc. It is all pretty funny, and tongue in cheek stuff, but it is great fun. The game is pretty hard and I have only made it to megastar once so far, but shortly thereafter I died of a heroine overdose. My last career was about 8 years, before I had an OD but I didn't die. The doctors messed up during the operation though and I died from internal bleeding. The last few years of that career were pretty hard. I was very popular in the Europe but couldn't chart in the UK or America. If anyone else has ever played this game or plays it, let me know how it goes. I would love some tips since I seem to be pretty poor at it.
I just played through a quick game. It was quite fun. I tried not to take drugs, but it kept making me, finally landing me in the hospital, and killing me. I was a "rockstar" status.
I was going to post a link of a place to download. EWS found a different one. http://www.classic-pc-games.com/pc/adventure/r/index.html That's the one I found. I tried not to take drugs too, but it does make you. Plus I think sometimes the drugs can help your happiness, and creativity when you are in the studio. I never do Heroine, but I think because I go to parties and raveups it makes me do it. If you go to your drug use screen you can cut back quit, or increase drug intake except for Heroine. It is impossible to stop doing it once you do it. Going into drug rehab will kick for a little bit, but it comes back again.
I made it to megastar for a second time. I was doing well in a 7 year career, but then I collapsed after a show, and it said that my tired body gave up the ghost. That blows. I was doing so well. I had just signed another great recording contract, and my recent album was climbing the charts all over.
