    Realistically speaking and assuming
    1) No one on either side is further injured.....
    2) Rockets get better acclimated to new offense.

    Rockets vs. Suns

Front court: Yao + Scola + Landry can score in bunches against a weak front court defense of Suns. Aside from few spectacular blocks, Amare refuses to play defense. Letting Tim Thomas go hurts the Suns n this matchup because he seems to give Yao some problem. The Rockets 3 can also limit Amare on offense as long as they can contain Nash....which brings us to...

Backcourt: Nash will rip apart Rafer. Brooks has a better chance to stay in front of Nash. Rockets could also try putting Battier on Nash at times to slow him down a little. In any case Nash + Barbosa will kill Rockets. Rockets might be better off simply letting Nash get his and staying home with everyone else.

Key matchup: Tmav vs. Marion. The series will hinge on this matchup. Marion actually does a very good job on Tmac and can stay with him on his jumper. If Tmac drives the entire series, Rockets have a great chance of winning. If Tmac settles for outside jumpers, Suns have an easy time.

Final say: Rockets can beat suns in 7 game series, but I would give the edge to Suns because of experience. They have been thru several wars while Rockets have not fared well under pressure.

    Rockets vs. Spurs

Frontcourt: Too close to call. Yao plays Duncan pretty well. Duncan can have big games but so can Yao. Duncan gets slight edge at end of close games however because of experience and the fact that he can face Yao up and cause him problems. However, that advantage can be negated because Duncan can be a liability at the free throw line.

Backcourt: Tony parker and Manu will be the Rockets killers. In playoffs they penetrate on you until you die. Considering Rockets don’t really have great defense against penetrating guard, this will win the games for Spurs. Battier would have to play at his best to slow down Manu. It doesn’t matter how good Rafer plays. He can’t stay in front of Parker. Again, Brooks might have a better chance because of his speed.

Key matchup: Once again, Tmac vs. Bowen. If Tmac is attacking the rim, Bowen is helpless. Bowen can bother his jump shots, but he cannot stop a driving and aggressive Tmac.

Final say: If rockets youngsters get enough experience under their belt they can create problems for the Spurs, but once again, I think Spurs will win a 7 game series simply because of experience alone. Rockets still tend to go in panic mode on offense and a Spurs playoff defense might stifle them at times.

    Rockets vs. Lakers

Frontcourt: This is almost a wash with the new trade. Bynum + Gasol matchup very well Rockets frontcourt. Considering Gasol has a history of giving Yao problems, this does not bode well for Rockets.

Backcourt: One of the few teams against which Fisher would actually be licking his chops. Fisher brings in too much experience and clutch shooting for Rafer to handle. Battier can do his best but Kobe will still score 30+ on Rockets, maybe 40+ if its playoffs.

Key matchup: Tmac and Odom. Once again, it will be up to Tmac. In this series though he would not only have to be driving and attacking all the time, but he would have to be having the best/flawless series of his life to win the series for the Rockets considering Rockets will have no advantage elsewhere. I just don’t see it happening in a 7 game series, especially considering the other team has Kobe on it.

Final say: Rockets matchup very poorly against Lakers. They have a great starting lineup, great bench, best coach in the business, and the best player in the NBA. I just don’t see Rockets winning 4 games out of 7 against Lakers.

    Rockets vs. Dallas

Frontcourt: Yao + Scola + Landry is better than whatever Dallas can field. Brandon Bass is a good pickup for them but he does not come close to offsetting the advantage that Yao provides. Scola should be able to stay with Bass the way Scola has been progressing.

Backcourt: Devin Haris is a huge problem for Rockets. He is too quick for Rafer and can shoot over Rafer with ease. He makes most of his shots too. Jason Terry has always been a thorn on Rockets sides. As has Jerry Stackhouse. Dallas backcourt should absolutely demolish rockets backcourt.

Key Matchup: Josh Howard vs Tmac. Tmac is a bigger name but Howard has turned out to be a damn good player himself. I don’t see Tmac outplaying Howard to the point where he can single handedly win games for Rockets.

Final say: Dalls has some huge matchup advantage against the Rockets. And I haven’t even mentioned Dirk Nowitzki anywhere until now. To beat Dallas Yao would have to absolutely play like a monster and negate all the advantages Dallas has. Can he do it consistently in a 7 game series especially considering Dallas usually goes small to expose Yao’s lack of quickness? He would basically have to play like he did against Golden State hru out the series. I don’t see it happening. Rockets can win 2 or possibly 3 games but not 4 in a best of 7 series, especially if they don’t have HCA.

    Rockets vs. Hornets

Frontcourt: Chandler is a good player but Yao will eat him alive in playoffs. It does not help much though because David West will eat alive whoever the Rockets send at him. On any given day, any frontcourt tandem can beat the other.

Backcourt: Chris Paul vs. Rafer. Do you really want me to go into this one? Again, Rockets might end up relying a rookie PG just to stay front of his man. Too much risk involved either ways.

Key Matchup: Peja vs.Tmac. A playoff Tmac should absolutely eat up Peja. One thing is almost given…Peja chokes in playoffs. On the other hand, Tmac’s game elevates in playoffs. The series will come down to who outplays who more? Chris Paul or Tmac.

Final say: Hornets are a great team but I think Tmac would be too much for them in playoffs. I expect Rockets to take the series.

    Rockets vs Utah

Backcourt: We have seen this one. Deron will be looking for a new hole in Rafer. One more year of experience under Deron’s belt = worse prognosis for Rafer. Utah also knows how to defend the perimeter so Head once again will be a non factor. Backcourt also got an added boost from Korver who is the new Hornaceck. They have hardly lost games since they acquired Korver.

Frontcourt: This is where the change will come. Going from Juwan Howard to Scola. Jazz physical styleplay fits in very well with Scola. That’s the kind of rugged game he has and I see him giving Jazz problems on both end.

Key Matchup. Once again Tmac is key to success. An attacking Tmac renders AK47 useless. If AK47 is allowed to roam around freely, he will cause Rockets a lot of problems.

Final say: Considering they lost Fisher who added some toughness to the team and guarded Tmac well, and we have added Scola to front court which vastly improves us, we might have improved enough to take the Jazzin a 7 game series. That is, if Korver’s addition and thus their improvement does not matchup or overpower ours. Too close to call. It might come down to HCA and how well Rafer is hitting form the perimeter (yikes!).

    Rockets vs Portland

Backcourt: One matchup where Rafer can actually hold his own! Battier will pick up Brandon Roy and can bother him enough to stifle Blazers offense. McGrady will cause a lot of problems for Blazers.

Frontcourt: Yao should be able to kill the Blazers frontcourt. Scola also poses problems for them.

Final say: Blazers have a bright future but at present they are just too young and inexperienced to stay with the Rockets in a 7 game series. Rockets should easily come out on top.

    Rockets vs. Denver

Front court: Yao plays very well against Camby. Advantage here definitely goes to Rockets especially when you factor in an injured martin/Nene and Rockets can field Scola + Landry.

Backcourt: AI will get his. Rafer will make sure AI will get a lot. But that will not necessarily translate into Denver wins. In fact, Rockets might be content into letting AI get his and just staying at bay with others. Battier can frustrate Carmelo.

Key Matchup: Tmac vs. (insert Nugget here) . Tmac can single handedly win this series for Rockets. I don’t seen anyone on the Nuggets who can stop him.

Final say: Rockets have lots of matchup advantage. Rockets actually have some answer for Nuggets best players, while Nuggtes don’t have counters for Rockets best players. Rockets should take this series without too much problem.

So.....realistically speaking, Rockets are kinda screwed since they are in Western Conference and will not play any of the team they should win against in the first round. IMO,they need a third star/superstar player to take them to the next level if Stern does not show mercy and move them to Eastern Conference.

We can take anyone in the Western Conference. Especially the Lakers...how fired up do you think T-Mac is gonna be to square off against Kobe? Yao+T-mac > Gasol+Kobe. Kobe is better than T-mac, but not by the same margin that Yao is better than Gasol.

The Spurs we would take in 6 games. Count on that. They are too old, too vulnerable, and stats show that they do not match up well against Yao specifically.

Dallas would go to 7, and I'm not so sure we could pull this one out. Josh Howard is hard to match up against, and Terry would kill Alston.

Portland, Nuggets, Blazers, and Hornets we would all take in 6 games or less. Not enough firepower in these teams to match up against us.

    Suns we would prolly lose.

The Rockets can beat NO, Utah, Denver, and Portland.

When it comes to the Lakers, Spurs, Suns, and Golden State, the series can go either way.

    The Rockets cannot beat Dallas.

Rockets can beat Spurs, Lakers, Hornets, Nuggets and Blazers in a 7 game series.

Rockets can probably beat Dallas, Jazz.

Rockets probably can't beat Suns or Golden State in a 7 game series.

we can hang with dallas for 3.5 quarters. we just can't beat them down the stretch BEFORE.

but now we have options down the stretch outside of ONLY TMAC (avery just straight up doubles him everywhere tmac goes in the last 5 minutes), so we can beat them. we'll face them soon so we'll see.

i say we can beat utah, denver, portland, hornets, and even the spurs.

we haven't proven we can beat the mavs and suns consistently yet.

we'll have to see if we fare well v. the new look lakers first for me to have an opinion. it's not always about on paper.

mavs 67: 90 pistons, without harris, they are a horrible team.

BTW, VGD just said, blazzers won't make playoff, and nuggets may not make it either.

I like our chances against the Spurs.
I think we would beat Denver or Portland, unfortunately, we are unlikely to play them.
Another very close series against Utah, don't know.
I don't like our chances against the rest, especially the Suns, Mavs, Lakers, or Hornets.

Need a shooter, a PG with size, or both. And a boatload of more athleticism. The Rockets are not a contender, at present. Making the playoffs still looks like a long shot to me. Winning over 41 games is going to be difficult, and that might not even do it. I don't see the Rockets winning 52 games like last year. But, I hope they do. I like the youth movement, but the team still needs a serious tweak.

Blazers - they are lucky to hang in #9 because they have won so many close games. Rockets will be ahead of them by next weekend.

Denver - it's always interesting when a team has AI & Melo. But George Karl never seems able to make them play like a team. It's always like AI 1 on 1 & Melo 1 on 1. Playoffs? Maybe. But the Rockets have an edge on them.

Warriors - this team is full of fighters. they play in spurs, have many ups and downs in 1 game. But they dont have too much interior defense. Teams have inside presence can abuse them in the paint. Playoffs? Maybe. But Adelman will make Yao Ming their nightmare.

Jazz - They patch their big hole in SG by acquiring Krover. AK47 has his best shooting season. They are very sharp offensively. But they are working too many newbies into their rotations and their defense is not so good. I put them even with the Rockets - 7 games flip coin series.

Lakers - The way this team can score points is not even funny. The whole team is on fire. Really need tough defense to shut them down. Have youth, size, athleticism, and deep bench and now they get Gasol. Verly likely to be in 2nd round or even WCF final. It depends how they play after all-star week. It's a bad idea to play them in 1st round.

Spurs - Well, they are the champs. enuff said. You just dont want to run into the champs in 1st round and think you have a good chance beating them because you think you match up well with them. Their experience is enough to kill you every single time in a close game. And your regular season success against them wont even be a factor.

Hornets - They are manily a half court team. Although they are playing well right now, they are inexperience in the playoffs. They have a thin bench. I like the Rockets chances against them in a 7 games playoffs series especially if T-Mac is healthy.

Mavericks - This team is a deep and experience team. They have a mental edge on the Rockets after they beat them in 05. They have too many shooters and scorers. They will have an edge on the Rockets in playoffs.

Suns - The Suns are interesting. I actually think the Rockets will play well aginst them but I need more observations. If the Rockets have a choice, they should avoid them in 1st round.

The top 4 teams in WC should be among Suns/Lakers, Jazz/Nuggets, Hornets/Mavericks/Spurs. I think the Rockets will do well against Jazz/Nuggets/Hornets.

I like the Rockets over the Blazers and the Nuggets. That's pretty much it. The West is just too tough this year.

Suns - Lose in 5 games because we don't matchup well with them and Yao is going to be gassed running the floor constantly after 2 games.
Spurs - Win in 7 games... Spurs are talented every year, however, this year might be the year somebody beats them. I personally think this is the worst Spurs team they have had in awhile. I think that if the Rockets were about to win the series against them, Robert Horry might pull the same crap he did last year with Steve Nash except it might be T-Mac or Yao.
Lakers - Can't offer a prediction on this one, yet. The factor is how Bynum plays when he returns and how will Pau Gasol fit into the team.
Mavs - Lose in 6. The Rockets are (0-3) against them this season and quite frankly NONE of the games have been close against them. Jason Terry is a Rockets Killer and Dirk Nowitzki seems to hit every key shot down the stretch against them.
Hornets - Win in 6. I don't think they are that good, period. Yes they have Chris Paul, who arguebly is the best point guard in the NBA and David West to go along with Peja Stojakovic. Hornets could make this a series if Paul and West play well constantly every night and they get 25 ppg from Stojakovic every night.
Jazz - Win in 7. T-Mac and Yao have to show up and play every single night and get tough when the going gets tough. The Jazz are known for playing dirty basketball and they want to get the opponent frustrated and get them to play ratball and make it a physical series. For the Rockets to win the series, they must get contribution from the other guys like Scola, Battier, Brooks, Landry and Alston.
Blazers - Win in 5. Portland is just too young to make any noise this season come playoff time and lack of experience is going to kill them down the stretch.
Nuggets - Win in 6. "Team Inconsistent" has alot of talent every year but George Karl has knuckleheads on his team that think "Me First, Everyone else second" in Iverson and Anthony and they have never had much success against the Rockets and if they ever were to meet in a playoff series, expect Denver to choke again in the 1st round.

First, we have the talent and the ability to beat any team in the league. There s not ant team in the league that we could say, no it s impossible for the Rockets to beat that team. With us playing hard, we can win any team and we proved that against great teams like Spurs, Suns, Jazz and etc.

    Spurs:
We always match them well and they mostly have trouble vs our team. We never faced Spurs in the playoffs and we all know that the Spurs arent the same team in the playoffs. To know who will win in a 7 game series between these two teams, we will have to see them playing in a playoff game. Going according to the game that we have play last years against them in the regular season, we can pull up that series in a 6 game.

    Lakers:
We have never seen Gasol playing for the Lakers. We dont know how he will play. Also, we havent see him play with Bynum. Bynum may be out for the whole season and in the playoffs, he may not be the Bynum that he was early in the year. So considering that Bynum wont play well for them in the playoffs, and Gasol will be like 17 and 9, the Rockets should pull up that one in 7 games. If Bynum comes back and play well, the Rockets will lose that one in 7 games. The homecourt advange will be very important between these two teams. The Lakers will likely have it if the play against each other.

    Portland:
We could win that one in 5 games. They are not experienced and we are a better team than them, so that should be an easy one.

    Hornets:
Also not experienced, but we dont match them very well. Last game, we matched them pretty well. Maybe with Adelman we match them well. So a win in a 6 games.

    Suns:
I dont see us winning them. We match them badly and Yao dont play well. Last time, we beat them and everything went good for us. if we like the last time, we should take that one , if not , the Suns will take in a 6 games.
Also, if T-Mac goes crazy, we should win that one. Hope that we dont play them in the playoffs series.

    Jazz:
Last year, we almost beat and this year, till the playoffs, we will get better than what we were last year and we should beat them in 6 games , if play them.

    Dallas:
Dont match them well. Althought, T-Mac goes always crazy vs them and we may have a chance because of that. But as right now, I think that they will win vs in 6 games. Hope that I wont have the same opinion at the end of the season.

    Warriors:
Last game, we showed that we have the ability of winning vs them and I am sure that we will beat them in the playoffs in 6 games. We are better than them.

Overall, we have lot of chances to make the second round. Hope that we wont have to match a team that we dont match well. Also hope that my sig. comes true. Actually, I am 100% sure that it will come true. ;) ;) ;)

By the way, it s a pretty nice thread.

Pray for the Blazers in a 7-game series, the Rockets are their biggest problem.

I'd settle for Denver or maybe Utah too. In fact, if the Rockets can get that lucky 6th seed to roll for them, I'd really like to see them face any of the Northwestern teams.

Not sure we can do it this year while the team is still integrating the new Adleman system but I expect big things out of them next year for sure. Who knows, they may have gelled enough by the playoffs to make some big noise. One can only hope. By the way, 14-5 over the last 19 games. Not too shabby.

I agree with you durvasa. This team plays too inconsistent to beat the other teams in a seven game series.
