Rockets Trim Roster To 14

    HOUSTON, Oct. 16 — The Houston Rockets have waived forward Lorenzo Johnson and guard Rayford Young, General Manager Carroll Dawson announced today. Neither Johnson nor Young saw action in the team's first three preseason games.

    Johnson averaged 1.5 points and 0.5 rebounds in two games with Houston in the 2000 Rocky Mountain Revue. The 6-9, 230-pound forward has played overseas for teams in Europe and Asia. He played for Spartak-St. Petersburg of the Russian Power League during in 1998 and toured with Mike McGee's Ocean team around China in 1999. In college, Johnson averaged 4.6 points and 3.9 rebounds in 116 games at Colorado State.

    Young averaged 4.6 points and one steal in five games with Houston in the 2000 Rocky Mountain Revue. The 5-11, 175-pound point guard enters his first season as a professional having just finished four years at Texas Tech, where he averaged 14.0 points, 3.8 assists and 1.58 steals in 108 games. In school history, Young ranks 10th in scoring, third in assists and second in steals. He stands as one of only two players in school history to record 1,500 points and 400 assists in a career.

    The Rockets training camp roster now stands at 14 players.

    Averaged 7.3 points (on .500 shooting) and 3.0 rebounds in four games for the Rockets Rocky Mountain Revue entry & started at shooting guard in wins over Cleveland and Utah & had his best game vs. Utah, setting personal highs with 12 points, six rebounds and two steals.

    As a Professional
    Averaged 6.3 points and 2.2 rebounds in 51 games with the Rockford Lightning during the 1997-98 CBA season & appeared in four playoff games with Rockford that season.

    As a Collegian
    Averaged 11.9 points and 2.0 steals in 105 career games at Southern California & finished his collegiate career ranked eighth in conference history and first in school history with 208 steals & left Southern California ranked fourth all-time in points and third in 3-pointers & became the fifth player in school history to register 1,000 points and 250 assists & led the Trojans in scoring as a junior and a senior & named to All-Pacific 10 Conference First Team as a senior at Southern California, averaging 16.0 points and 2.2 steals & as a junior, named All-Pac 10 Honorable Mention and team MVP after averaging a team-leading 15.2 points per game & improved his scoring average each season at USC.

    Personal
    Full name is Stais Boseman & was high school and college classmate with Houston Comets forward Tina Thompson & became the first person at his high school to be a four-year starter in both basketball and football & was a teammate of former Rockets forward Rodrick Rhodes in college.

    Stais Boseman is on the roster just in case of injury to Cat or Shandon. If you'll notice, should either one of them be unavailable at all then we have only 1 SG.

    Stais looked pretty good defensively in the RMR.
