That there was some Damon Stoudamire-to-Houston discussion before the trading deadline, but the Rockets had nothing to tempt Portland with in exchange for Stoudamire's expiring contract. You'll recall that the Rockets also unsuccessfully tried to convince Portland to swap Derek Anderson for Maurice Taylor before dealing Taylor to New York instead.

Man, I am still proud of CD. Cassell, Stoudmire are all tempting, but I like our role players better for the sake of chemistry.

Thank goodness they didn't go after Portland's baggage.

Who was it that predicted this would happen?

Portland is a train wreck (couldn't have happened to a better franchise... oh, except maybe the Lakers

they got nothing for Reef (which is who they got for Wallace... hense, nothing for Wallace)

    Reef will leave

The Rocekts were willing to take DA - now they are stuck with DA and the Rockets have 2 smaller (total) , expiring contracts

I'd rather have James than Stoudamire.

Mike James is waaaaaaayyyyyy better than Stoudamire for how much he got paid. $3 millions a year for James and max contract for Stoudamire? Comon!

I am happy with James, and the best thing is, we can afford having him for two more years with how much he's paid. Plus, with EG and Taylor gone, we don't need another pot-head in Houston.

Oh, if we can get rid off the prostitute hiring PEwck and alcoholic Baker, we'd be pretty clean.

Me too...as a player I kinda like Stoudamire (not as much as James though), but over anything else, I don't like the xtra baggage he carries around as evident with his history. I mean he sayz he's turned the corner, but we all know how the story goes there.

According to the ESPN article, it was Portland who was unwilling to do the trade.

damn we missed that bullet =) Stoudamire is the same "point guard" who scored 54 pts and had like 1 assist and 0's everywhere else this season. For some odd reason, they lost that game

IIRC, Stoudamire has been a playoff cancer when his role isn't to his liking.

I don't hate Portland near as much as when Quitten was there. I just didn't want him to ever win another Championship and Thank God he didn't. LOL

I'd rather have Stoudamire if the deal was to send MoT and change for Stoudamire.

Rockets is not a title contender this year with or without James anyway. Maybe you'll disagree but that's what I'm thinking. To have Stoudamire's huge contract off the hook after this season, Roeckts can get a PG like James AND a decent PF this summer, maybe more. That may make Rockets a true contender next year.

    Too bad Portland didn't bite.

I'm happy with what we got for MoTay. If you think about it, we got rid of two shoot-first point guards when we swapped Mobley and Francis for McGrady. I don't know what we'd do with another shoot first point guard (we've already got Mosely), so I am glad to have gotten what we did.

Vin Baker's bloated contract goes bye-bye sooner than MoTay's, and Moochie is a fan favorite that plays very well in spells, which is all we need from him.

But Stoudamire's max deal comes off the books this summer, which makes him a pretty huge commodity.

But I'm glad we picked up James though, he is awsome.

He played the 2 that game.

Since no terms of the 'proposed' DS to Houston 'deal' were identified then how do we know how good/bad a deal it might have been (standing on its own without the James deal being agreed to by Bucks).

The Rockets have the capabilities of competing for an NBA title this year partly because of James' and Sura's defense at the PG spot. Stoudemire wouldn't have given us that.

What "Pass 1st, shoot 2nd" really means is a pleading slogan to the Rockets fans, not players.

Back in the days, the fans got so frustrated at the old Rockets team for their iso play and undisciplined dribblemania. Some started talking about assassinating some of the players.

"Pass 1st, shoot 2nd" actually means that if it were to happen, please pass up Francis (1 = pg), and shoot Mobley (2 = sg) instead. So, p1s2 is apparently a Francis fan trying to save his favorite player's life.
