Western Conference Standings as of today....... Midwest W L Pct GB Home Road Div Conf Streak L10 Houston 19 14 .576 3.5 12-4 7-10 3-7 10-12 Won 3 6-4 last year after 33 games......... 19-14.....and went 4-4 to be at 23-18 at the all-star break.....the difference is this year we have a much deeper Western Conference and need to keep up the record to fight for a playoff spot. There has been a lot of complaining about the fans, which is understandable, but the Rockets will not get solid fan support until they can prove they have improved......just my 2 cents
Well we're on a 3 game win streak and I think that will increase to 8, the next 5 games are easy. I think they should be around 29-4 to 24-9....we gave away a number of games that we had won.
4 of the next 5 games are on the road, so I'm not sure I'd call them easy, no matter who we are playing.
They may be on the road but they're all Eastern teams and the Rockets eat East teams up. Plus, I think all those teams suck. I BELIEVE! You heard it here first, 8 game win streak for the Rockets.
Detroit OWNS Houston at home, and the new look Knicks will have too much firepower. No way the Rockets win eight in a row. An eight game losing streak is possible.
I'm a pessimist (sp?) by nature but I have a good feeling about the Rockets on this coming stretch. I think Yao is going to be pumped and I think Stevie is going to be playing a bit smarter. And everyone else will be consistent. And damn, if the defense keeps up we should have a good road trip.
Detroit in Detroit is going to be one hell of an ugly game. The 2 best defenses in the league, who the hell is going to score? I think we'll take it though. We've done a pretty good job closing off the lanes, and not giving Guards freedom, and it's known that if you slow Chauncey and Rip down, you've got the win. As for us, if they put Wallace on Yao, Mo will eat them up. Detroit is his hometown isn't it? Also, JJ matches up well with Prince. As long as Yao eats Ben up yet again, we'll be fine. As for NY, I think we'll split those games. I say we win 6 of the next 8.
As long as we're throwing out predictions, I'd just like to state on record that at the end of December I predicted a 27-19 record heading into February.
To answer the topic question: Rox play much better defense but the offense is equally worse, yielding about the same record as last year.
We are just as bad if not worse than last year. The players are primarily to blame and the coaching staff has been unable to take advantage of their respective strengths although it is imperative for them to play as a team as well. Trading for the sake of making changes isn't going to work either because I'm sure we won't get much value out of our players. If the Rockets end up trading Yao and Francis they will be making a huge mistake which would make us the weakest ball club in the league. Free agents won't want to come to Houston because of what they see everynight. All we end up is with players like Weatherspoon who is washed up. Things look very bad but it's up to everyone to make a much stronger effort and try to make up for their faults.
I've never seen the Rockets get blown out of so many games this year compare to last year while under Rudy T. They use to make a come back and keep it close even if they lost. JVG doesn't know how to moviate his player as Rudy T did. Is it just me or there truth to this statement?
Now that Marbury and Hardaway have been traded, the Rockets take the coveted "biggest waste of talent in the NBA" award. I challenge anybody to name an NBA team with as much physical talent as the Rockets that play as poorly as Houston does...
Seattle, Portland, Clippers Maybe Memphis But especially: DALLAS (20-14, +2 road wins > home losses; Rockets 19-15, +3)
