The Texans come in fourteenth in the NFL, and are actually CHEAPER than the Rockets. == http://www.bankrate.com/nsc/news/advice/20041119b1.asp In the first column is Team Marketing Report's Fan Cost Index for four average-cost tickets, (luxury suites are excluded) two programs, parking, two souvenir caps and refreshments (two small beers, four small soft drinks, four hot dogs) total. The second column is the cost of an average ticket. NBA AVG $261 $45 == LA Lakers $387 $75 New York $362 $64 Houston $330 $59 [...] Denver $205 $33 GSW $185 $26
Well the pricing is understandable, when you consider the ingredients; we have two marquee attractions and a shiny new arena. However the product is considerably less exciting than the return of the McRib. BTW, why the f do these surveys always include "souvenir caps"? You can buy a cap basically anytime, anywhere - why would a rational consumer buy a souvenir cap at a game when they can walk down the street or drive to the mall and get one for much cheaper? Also, who buys programs anymore, much less 2 of them? can't people share 1? It's like a sports version of an airline magazine.
well to be fair, nothing is more exciting than the return of the McRib. that sandwich is a bad mamma jamma.
Why do they include all this junk in these surveys anyway? Really, the only thing that matters are the ticket prices and the parking. Those are the only things that are necessary to watch a game anyway. Who makes the decision to go watch a sporting event based on whether the hot dogs are $3, $5 or $7?
I think it is reasonably fair to add in extras. Kids always want something to take home as a souvenier of an evening at a sporting event. However, the ticket prices are by far the biggest piece of the pie. Going strictly by ticket price, the Rockets get bumped down to fourth (Average Sacramento tickets are $63 vs. the Rox $59). The number I find interesting is Detroit, which remains firmly near the bottom in cost, despite their championships.
Myself, I prefer either the Hot and spicy or the Double cheeseburger. Less expensive, less mess, less napkins... By the way, don't buy the programs anymore, don't buy the hats (got mine at champs), and I see more nachos than hotdogs (not to mention it is a lot easier to share nachos).
money in the mattress les has a nice little gig going.....time and again dumps talent to reduce payroll and still finds a way to saddle fans with one of the highest ticket rates.
I think if the Rockets don't do anything soon, they are going to loose a lots of fans. If you think the stadium is empty now, wait till the football playoffs kick in. The problem I have is that I can hardly find any excitements from the Rockets anymore, does JVG realizes that NBA is still an entertainment? Why should I pay that much money to watch a game that bores me to sleep?
