In the Washington game in which Hawkins was slamed to the ground by Oakley the thug, and he looked really hurt there. Boy, not even one Rocket on the court seemed to be mad at Oakley. A couple of them came over to check out Hawkins, and the rest just stood there as if nothing happened. The announcers were all over this, saying the Rockets don't care their teammates.

I remember in the game between the Wolves and the Mavs, KG slapped Dirk on the head on Dirk's drive, and Finley came after KG like crazy. They both got a technical, but that showed how much Finley as a team leader cares for his teammate. On the other hand, the STEVIE FRANCHISE did absolutely nothing.

Come on now, if Francis is the team leader, he needs to step up and let Oakley know this kind of action will not be tolerated. Francis ranks #4 in technical calls in the NBA (13), and he used all of them b****ing at the refs after bad calls. But when it's the real time to use them, he held back. I am just wondering what kind team leader he is, and how bad our team chemistry is.

You cant judge how someone cares about there teammate by what you felt should have happened in the situation. Thats crazy, man lay off of Steve man the dude is doing his best. I mean I hate the fact that we are losing and the fact that it seems we arent learning from our mistakes, but it is getting kinda old seeing all these fair weather fans. I am one of the most critical of the rockets on this site, but enough is enough already. You win some you lose some. But if you want to spread blame, dont single steve out. If anything our whole bench should have raised up, not just steve. Its funny when the Rockets win one game everyone thinks we are going to the playoffs, when we lose one everyone points fingers. Get a grip guys PLEASE!

When Van Gundy said someone should retaliate against Oakley-I wished we had a Barkley - kevin Willis type enforcer to crack Oak with an elbow. I made me really mad that Oad did not even get a flagrant foul or technical forthe hit on Hawkins.

I'm not sure what I think of Van Gundy. I recall some of the Knick's cluster fights that were pretty ridiculous.

    Oakley is a dirty player.

    1. umm i'm not sure if steve is the guy you send after oak. not exactly an even size matchup. at least garnett is skinny so finley could stand up to him. enforcers are not your guards.

    2. you know if steve did that, there would've been a minimum of two threads talking about how immature steve is and how a real leader wouldn't go get a tech in a close game.

    3. my shoelace just broke, i'm thinking of blaming steve for this one. i let him off the hook on the last shoelace break, but i'm pinning this one directly on him. it's also a little cold in here, think that may have something to do with steve also. i'll get back to you on that one.

Your dumb a$$ wanted Francis to retaliate on oakley? I guess it would have been even when Oakley ended Steves season and got an eight game suspension. It would take Oakley about 2.8 seconds to destroy Steves body. If anyone should have done anything......Cato. But he was on the bench I think....automatic suspension when we really need him. so...no

I am sure that James Posey or Maurice Taylor would have retaliated. However, I do not remember them being in the game at that time. I am glad that there was no fight, nevertheless.
I wish Shaq would have picked a fight against Oakley instead of Brad Miller last year when the Bulls played the Lakers. That would have been interesting and it would have taught Oakley that his dirty play would cost him.
I remember Oakley throwing down Tierre Brown on a lay-up attempt last year. I understand that Oakley is trying to prevent the offensive player from scoring, but don't injure him. I think playing that way is very unacceptable and should not be tolerated.

Mo did retaliate. He kept sticking jumpers and making hook shots on Oak all night.

Sometimes the best way to retaliate is with your play instead of your elbows or your words. :) :)

I agree that Francis or Mobely shouldn't be the ones to jump in and protect their teammate if it's a thug like Oak, and we'd all probably pass out in a dead faint if Yao did (and, to be fair, we wouldn't want him to either) because we don't want them thrown out... big plus for the other team.

But hell, Francis gets hammered all the time and usually nothing much stirs amongst his buddies. The least they can do is get in the thug's face (whoever it is) and draw a T. Taylor has stood up before, to his credit, and Cato is obvious if he's in the mood. (who knows with Kelvin?)

KT used to. You need a tough guy to put someone on the floor hard after something like that. Someone that it comes to as natural as breathing. And it wouldn't hurt if it was someone we could afford to lose for the game.

Right now, we ain't got it.
It bugs the hell out of me.

    Here's a hint:

An Enforcer should not be one of your best players.

An Enforcer will oftentimes get ejected, fined, and suspended.

Enforcer = Yao, Francis, or Mobley = Stupid

In case Im not clear enough, s-t-u-p-i-d.

I figure retaliating just encourages that macho crap. You're going to get smacked in the face a few times in any sport. If a guy is being unruly, retaliate by taking your fouls and hitting your free throws. If Hawk had hit those two, maybe Oakley would have backed off a bit.

With his size, position and contract, it seems that Mo Taylor should assume the role of enforcer. Unfortunately, Mo is softer wet toilet tissue.

I don't know if it's the after effects of his weed smoking, but that guy is annoyingly soft.

LOL...I remember when Barkley attempted to be the enforcer for us against Shaq. He said later that he just wanted to look tough, but when Shaq retaliated he just held his arms from punching and preyed. He was ashamed that the stick man injured him:D

That is what I said in the other thread. We need someone like Barkley. Atleast he would get into the scuffles to show don't mess with this team to others. We do not have a player that will stand up, giving the impression the rocks are all babies.

I remember that game when Barkley got into a fight with Shaq. I was at the game. Shaq elbowed Barkley, so he grabbed the ball and chucked it at Shaqs head. Shaq ran at Barkley who stould his ground. When the met Charles picked up Shaq and slamed him on the ground on Shaq's back. We do need an enforcer.

Griffin and Yao were the big guys when Hawkins was hit, and neither of them are going to retaliate. Yao because of where he is from, and Eddie because he only hits his teammates.

    WELL WHAT DO YOU EXPECT???????

Steve Francis fighting with Charles Oakley....NOT SMART. Later...Francis got hacked by Oakley.....Man. Francis just walks away.

And Yao. You know what would happen if he got in a fight. He's got a reputation. And he is genuine.
    Griffin.......well he's :(

Today's game. Cato and Mo Taylor showed they weren't cowards. Cato got tangled up with Malik Rose. MAN......AREN'T THEY LIKE THE TWO HIGHEST PAID BENCH PLAYERS IN THE NBA?!? Anyways.....Cato wasn't gonna let Rose just push him around. So he knocked him down. MUAHAHAH. Class. And then Mo Taylor went to protect Cato and started trash talking with Stephen Jackson. SEEEEEEE. They aren't cowards.

MAN. Jason Collier should be our enforcer.

Like the Mavericks.......they have a very big enforcer......Shawn Bradley.

Rice took a semi swing at Oakley much later in the game.
