JUst read Insider - and didn't see the Rockets mentioned anywhere. Does anyone have any news that the Rox are talking with anyone? I know we don't have a lot of positioning, but with Yao, Steve and JVG - I would think something might work. Anyone?
Yeah, sure there is. Leading up to draft night, people posted stuff like "I got a feeling something BIG is happening before the draft!!!" and supposedly TJ Ford, Chris Bosh, Eddie Jones, Antonio Davis, Brian Grant and Jermaine O'Neal were all headed our way at some point. Then draft night came and went and that netted us Malick Badiane, who is apparently the second coming of Hakeem and Kevin garnett rolled into one, according to some. Face it guys, the team we have is, plus or minus Posey and some minor changes, more than likely to be the team we have in November. That's not necessarily a bad thing.
Well, I am slightly surprised. I was really believing that the Rockets were going to make a play for TJ and a bruiser PF. I'm still not convinced that they didn't try but the asking price was too high. I still think some move are gonna be made. Still waiting for the Clipperland mess to shake out. I think we would still be interested in acquiring Brand. Of course I've been wrong before. Hey, doesn't Malick remind you a little bit of Larry Nance and Dr. J too?
Silence is golden. We don't want real trade possibilities leaked anyway. As far as no trades happening yet (except Cassel to Minnie), possibly certain teams that might facilitate trades are waiting to see what their free agents do. For example, Miami needs to know what Mourning will command on the open market. Will they just let him outright sign elsewhere (helps PR not to "waive" him) or facilitate a sign and trade? Because otherwise, Miami is looking at $7 million in cap space, Washington the same (depending on what trades are out there as well), Cleveland also will have about 6 mil, etc. Also, if we still pursue Jermaine O'Neal, Indy would need to trade with a 3rd team to have cap space/trade exception to offset the BYC of O'Neal's signed-and-traded contract. You also have CD hyping EG's summer workouts ("phone lines open! call now! EG still available!") CD mentions teams are interested. So he's trying to get the best possible deal out there.
