There will be an interview with Yao by Ahmad Rashad during both halftimes--- its a 2 part interview--Halftime of Dallas vs Minnesota , and Halftime of Houston vs. Sacramento.
in the pregame they left us out of the possible sleepers.....the only way to prove our talent is to win in the playoffs.
looks like everyone is doing that (I guess the 6-11 start still has them doubting) ... or maybe we are about to jump into the contenders ....
Well, not really... Bill Walton DID say that the Rockets were his "sleeper team" in the West, the problem was he was asked to pick "one" team in the LEAGUE (not conference) and he picked the Bulls (apparently because he felt the West is tougher, and therefore a sleeper would have less success in the West than in the East; this is likely why he picked an Eastern Conf team, because besides Miami and Detroit, it is wide open).
Bill Walton is such a gravytrain commentator, when he made his Rockets comment Snapper Jones and the other guy kinda laughed because they recognized it was a bandwagon comment.
I don't think anyone considers the Rockets a "sleeper" team anymore - looks like everyone knowns they've "woken-up"
I don't think the Rockets are "sleepers," I think we've shown that we are a good team and are possibly contendors. The Bulls are a perfect example of being a "sleeper."
i might have misunderstood. i didn't think that "sleeper" meant a team that might upset in the first round.
Oh yeah, seems like Ahmad Rashad interviewed Yao...he is up there (down there) with Bill Walton as far as what I think of him. I'm surprised he's held on to a job this long without Jordan around, thought he would have been replaced already on Inside Stuff, actually I thought that show would have been canceled already. On another note, KG's wife looks pretty hot...
Also, to precede the forthcoming "this is just the media jumping on the bandwagon again..." ... Hubie said the exact same thing BEFORE the Rockets played Shaq at Miami, and Yao was really going thru a rut (right before the 8 game win-streak). Too bad he actually helped soften everybody's expectations of Yao by being the first ever to implement the Yao-killing fronting defense... thank goodness we got better players to neutralize that.
Hubie mentioned that to him Yao is right on track and discussed that "Yao only plays 31 minutes scores 18.5 pts on 12 shots a game. He is one of the top shot blockers in the game" I have to agree and I think JVG touched on this some time back.. Yao only shoots 12 shots a game and doesnt get as many minutes as alot of players and is still near the top in the league. J
Ahmad: "What is your favorite food?" Yao: "Chinese food." Ahmad: (laugh) "OK, what specifically is your favorite?" Yao: "Chicken Soup." Ahmad: (laugh) "That's not Chinese food! You can get that here!" Yao: "Depends on where you get it. If you get it in China, it's Chinese food."
How is he a gravytrain? He has been praising Yao since he has come into the league and, seriously, until the last month or so, would anybody have picked us as a sleeper?
Great minds think alike (Hubie and JVG that is) The funny thing is that the people who REALLY know the game and have been teaching it for some time (not some dumb TV analysts) think Yao's numbers/production is quiet impressive for a man who doesn't play really that many minutes. They agree that his "impact" on the court is more than most players in the league, even some of the great players in the league now. They talk about how Yao "changes" the game, and how people who REALLY understand the game and have taugh the game in that past understand that REAL big men (not Amare-types) take longer to develop, but once they get there, it is all worth it. I thin I will go with the credible analysis by basketball teachers than some bitter, lard-ass meat head who can't stop talking (you guess whom I am talking about)
Also from the "Access Ahmad" Part I of his interview... Yao said that sometimes he goes out and about the city, and usually goes to Best Buy or some other places (there was a poster here a few months ago that said he saw/might have saw Yao in Best Buy on Richmond, so this seems to verify that) Also, Yao said that although he likes Houston and all, it still feels like "being at the office", while being in China still feels like "home". (completely understandable for anyone who has ever migrated from his home country to live elsewhere, you just never develop that 'home' feeling if you haven't lived here as a youngster) When Yao was asked by Ahmad what his favorite show was, he said "Of course, Inside Stuff!" (with a smirk on his face), Ahmad said that he didn't prop Yao to say that, but he compliments him on his good taste BTW, Dr. Jack Ramsey was saying during this current T-Wolves/Dallas game that Houston is "playing really well right now". So rack up another compliment from a credible basketball source (It was Hubie Brown first, and now Dr. Jack Ramsey). The second part of the interview should air (if I am not mistaken) during the halftime of the Rockets game. That is all I got...
