So all three 2-way spots filled. Hudgins Days Samuels The Rockets lined up additional players for training camp, signing Jermaine Samuels Jr. to a two-way contract and three additional players to training camp contracts, a person with knowledge of the deals said on Wednesday. The Rockets signed Nate Hinton and Matthew Mayer, standouts on their summer league team, along with Jeenathon Williams, to training camp contracts with exhibit 9 contracts provisions that protect the team in case of injury on the preseason. Because of the rules involving Exhibit 9 contracts, the Rockets needed to sign a 14th player to also bring in players with Exhibit 9 contracts for training camp. Exhibit 9 contracts allow teams to release players that are injured without guaranteeing their contracts, making players on those contracts good options for training camp. Joshua Obiesie will sign a standard NBA contract, but will not be involved in the camp, allowing the Rockets to sign the other players for camp to exhibit 9 deals and get the G League rights for Obiesie to play with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
Glad Mayer and Hinton are getting camp invites. I was wondering who was gonna get that third 2-way spot. Interesting that it went to Samuels. He shot the 3 well, rebounded well and defended well in the G-league last year and in Summer League. He’s also a Villanova guy and can be a mentor to Cam, who is likely to be in and out of the G-League next year. This signing makes sense to me.
Not familiar with the ins and outs of this. Does Obiese have to clear waivers after camp or do the Rox automatically have his rights for the G?
I admit, I hated giving up Kenyon for nothing... but...... WHAT?!?! Future HOF'er? Not to say they're the same guy/player, but if his dad spent 15 incredibly productive seasons in the league and hasn't even sniffed a HOF vote, how do you expected his son to reach that feat, whom is both offensively and defensively impeded by his own limitations? He'll definitely make for a good offensive role player with some of his best contributions coming off his highlight weakside blocks, which will be that much more highlighted since he's in Hollywood now... That's quite the wild take Imanimal.
To be fair, this is the first time I have ever hears of the upnextgame. Good luck to Jermaine I guess!!
