Maybe someone posted already... HOUSTON (October 2, 2003) - The Houston Rockets have signed forward/center Jameel Watkins, general manager Carroll Dawson announced today. In 2002-2003, Watkins averaged 8.4 points (on .521 shooting) with 6.4 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 50 games with the Fayetteville Patriots of the National Development Basketball League. The 6-11, 255 pound forward/center was among the NBDL Leaders, ranking seventh in blocks, eighth in rebounds and 11th in field goal percentage. Watkins played collegiately at Georgetown, averaging 4.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 123 career games.
It's going to be interesting how well the NDBL players do in the leage compared to how the CBA players. A positive word to keep an eye on: "Development"
speculation.. they tried to bring in Pig before he got hurt..and now they are tryin to bring in another big man...and I havent seen any pics of Cato at Media Day. Could this be a precurser of something to come? things that make you go hmmmm.
Jameel played collegiately at Georgetown? Now, what was that Centers name that was there around the time Dream was at UofH? It alludes me right now....
Rockets Sign some Guy @ sports.yahoo.com/nba under transactions apparently Houston signed some PF who I have never heard of, his name is Jameel Watkins. Just thought I'd post for once.
I'm a Hoya and I try and follow all the Hoya basketball players' careers after they leave and I can tell you that Watkins is nothing really to get excited about. He has zero chance of making the team unless either Cato or Amaechi are traded b/c he sure as hell isn't better than either one of them.
What was the use of this signing? Do they need a backup for Taylor who is backing up EG? Doesn't make any sense...
Well, since both he and the Rockets know he has a snowball's chance in hell at making the team, I think the Rockets signed him just to get his name out there. He'll probably get some spot minutes in preseason, and a head coach might decide to take a chance on him
Im a hoya too! yeah, watkins was one of the tall players at gtown that never amounted to anything. for every ewing and mourning, theres a watkins and a lee scruggs. but damn could we use a center now.
