Ok so every year the misses and I make a road trip to catch a Rox road game and represent..it started 2 years ago when we made a SA game then least year we did SA(Scola's big game) and LA Lakers(Where we got destroyed early in the year) so now this year we are going to do SA for sure but wanted to do a different second location. Had thought about NY to go watch the Rox and Knicks battle at MSG but wanted everyone's advice. 1)Where to go? 2)Where to seat where we wont get killed by the home team's fans? Your thoughts as always are appreciated..if its in the wrong forum please move but I figured since it was Rox related Id post here.
Go to Portland. Since we knocked them out of the playoffs, I'm sure they will be extra harsh on a Rockets fan.
You can come to the midwest and go to the Pacers or Chicago or Detroit game with us! We had a big group go to the Chicago game (which ended up being a disaster on the court) but we had a good time none the less. There were only five of us in Indy and the Detroit game was during the week so we didn't get a group together for that one last year. Jsmee2000 will have a link in his sig later about our group if anyone wants to come visit and join us
Dallas? It's a 5 hour drive from Houston? If you can fly then go to NY, you can have a great time and not just in the stadium.
Yeah...whatever Hayesfan said... We had a pretty large group of 36 ppl at the Bulls game and a smaller group of five for the Pacers game. Milwaukee, Cleveland and Detroit either ended up on a holiday, on a weekday or late on Sunday so we weren't able to get a group together (unfortunately, my wife and I went to the Milwaukee game). Anyhow, if interested send me an email.
Sorry I'm going to borrow this thread to post something since I don't have thread-creating rights yet. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yao Ming quoted in latest Obama’s Remarks on the U.S.-China Relationship http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2009/07/27/obamas-remarks-on-the-us-china-relationship/ Good morning. It’s an honor to welcome you to the first meeting of the Strategic and Economic Dialogue between the United States and China. This is an essential step forward in advancing a positive, constructive, and comprehensive relationship between our countries. I’m pleased that President Hu shares my commitment to a sustained dialogue to enhance our shared interests. President Hu and I both felt that it was important to get our relationship off to a good start. Of course, as a new President and as a basketball fan, I have learned from the words of Yao Ming, who said – “No matter whether you are new or an old team member, you need time to adjust to one another.” Well, through the constructive meetings that we have already had, and through this dialogue, I am confident that we will meet Yao’s standard.
How is Dallas 5 hours away from Houston? Me and the wife make that drive tons of times and its never taken more than 3 1/2 or 4 hours at most. We live in Dallas so we do the reverse road trips to Houston for games. Have been to games here at the AAC vs the mavs, favorite games were game 1 of that 05 series and the win they got here during the streak 2 years ago.
I once drove from Denton to Sugar Land in 3 hours flat. I'm totally up for dallas. It'll give me a chance to visit friends from UNT and to wear the hell out of this shirt: http://www.zazzle.com/mavs_pony_dark_tshirt-235382502105268132 I've also got a pink one. They're the shirts from this thread: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=163466
We are going to probably do Dallas this year its a short trip...hey will there be a clutchfans Dallas group thing this year? It would be fun to do one, Id say SA but the last two years i've gone to a game down there they are pretty nice people so its hard to talk trash to them(my own experience) but Dallas seems like a perfect place to start a war!
I think a lot of it has to do with which part of town you're living in. I'm sure it would take close to 5 hours if you live in the Clear Lake/League City area; From Sugar Land, i can expect to be in Dallas in anywhere from 3-4 hours, depending on the speed you're driving at. I definitely like the idea of going to MSG. I went there a few years back and went to a ATL vs Knicks game.. .back when Marbury was still playing 35+ min/game and Larry Brown was the coach (Stevie wasnt there yet); so of course that was a super boring game, but if you're a basketball fan, MSG is a must!
I have every intention of going to MSG this year. Hopefully knock out New Jersey and maybe Philly as well if the schedule is right. I want to attend a Rockets game in every city. I'm young so I got time hopefully to attend all 28 other cities.
If your plan is to do a weekend game and enjoy where-ever you are for a weekend, then, considering where you've already been, I think you have to look at: New York, Boston, Chicago, D.C. (all preferably not in the dead of winter, so depends on the schedule), Miami, Denver, Portland, Golden State As noted, if you wanted to add driving trips, you could add both Dallas AND New Orleans to the schedule. If I had to pick one of the above, it would probably be Boston. I'm as tired of the Boston bias as anyone, but Boston is a cool town, the Celtics are actually good (as opposed to the Knicks, for example) and there is a change KG may do something stupid. If I had to pick a Western Conference team, I'm think Portland. The Rockets beat them in the first round, when their team is good, their fans seem to be great, their team is actually enjoyable to watch with players you feel good cheering for (Roy, Aldridge, Oden, etc.), and, if near the end of the season, you may catch some good weather and enjoy Portland and the coast. That said, I don't think you could go wrong with NYC. Also, I think the schedule will likely dictate where you go. I'd imagine it needs to be a Friday or Saturday game.
I'd vote to go somewhere that'll be a neat place to visit, game aside. For the past several years I've done mini-vacations built around a game/show/event that was the reason - but the trip itself acts as insurance to hedge against a disappointing time at the event. At this point the reason has become more like the excuse and is bonus. So much more enjoyable this way. Go to places you haven't been, consider secondary things that you might do, consider the venue itself. Places I'd suggest: Boston (especially if there's a game later in the season, though this will be a rough ticket unless the Rockets REALLY blow) Seattle (beautiful place to visit, neat downtown to walk around, wait....what?) Golden St (fun atmosphere and fans, amazing area of the country) Knicks (Manhatters never disappoints, it's cool to check out MSG) Go someplace random and fun. Tons of different spots: Denver, Phoenix, Chicago, etc.
that's what i plan to do when i'm done with grad school. so far, i've been to rocket road games in LA (both teams), golden state, sacramento, and denver.
MSG and Boston sound like two winners for me...now its just wait for the Schedule to come out..would also like to try the midwest trip hayesfan meantioned...Chicago is another city where a vacation can be built around a game and always wanted to check out the United Center!
if anyone lives near SF and wants to hit up a warriors game, hit me up. i love that arena. though the warriors routinely suck, they have some of the best fans. love watching the game with enthusiastic fans, rockets or not.
