“Before signing Dorian Finney-Smith in free agency, the Houston Rockets pursued a trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers for forward Dean Wade, sources said,” reported Siegel. “Houston was willing to offer Wade a full MLE extension over the next few seasons, the same deal that Finney-Smith ultimately got, if they were able to finalize a trade with Cleveland.” Siegel also reported that “when the Cavaliers declined this trade involving Wade and the Lakers' fallout with Finney-Smith made its rounds across the league, the Rockets quickly moved on to the veteran two-way wing and offered him a four-year, $52.7 million contract,” and that these talks had occurred shortly before the NBA Draft. https://clutchpoints.com/nba/housto...an-wade-cavs-trade-dorian-finney-smit-signing
Weird. I don't watch much Cavs basketball. Not a guy that has made much of an impression on me, which likely means he's okay. Would he be an option as a small ball 5?
Before this was reported, I feel like Sam Vecenie mentioned Dean Wade as a player Houston will probably take a look at back in one of his old team previews. Not sure if Sam is a good guesser or if he has actual connections into Houston's front office(likely both) but this was definitely mentioned a month or so ago.
I kind of feel like the back part of DFS' contract might be rough given his age and the way he looked movement wise as a Laker although supposedly he was still recovering through much of last year. Kind of wish Dean Wade deal had worked out for that reason but otherwise, if you are relying on huge minutes every night for either of these guys, you probably are in a bit of trouble. We just need them to give good minutes against 2nd strings and occasionally be able to play more minutes when injuries/fouls necessitate it in spurts.
