With players signed during the summer available for trades beginning Wednesday, the trade rumors began to swirl around the league, including one involving the Rockets. That had the Rockets in talks about the Raptors' Donyell Marshall, possibly as a third team in a Vince Carter deal. But according to NBA sources, the teams have no deals on the table. It will not be the last whisper, however. With the Rockets below .500 and holding a $5.2 million trade exception, phone lines will buzz. Deals, particularly involving the Rockets' hefty contracts, will be tough, but there will be talk.

Donyell would be perfect for us.

any trade bringing in a PF would have to involve moving one aswel.

th 3-team deal probably involves the knicks. thats where VC seems to be heading anyway. JVG just wants to get in the deal and get some knick players.

So lets say we do all the deals (fat chance) that we are rumored to be a part of right now.

We throw our 5.2 million trade exception and Maurice Taylor, Lue and Dikembe Mutombo for Jalen Rose and Donyell Marshall.

Then we trade Bostjan Nachbar, Jim Jackson, and a second round draft pick to the Denver Nuggets for SF Rodney White and PF/C Nene.

Imagine the lineup we could have...

    PG- Sura/Ward
    SG- TMac/JJ
    SF- Rose/White
    PF-Marshall/Howard
    C-Yao/Nene

I think we would have a lot of potential in this rotation. I know the chances are that it wont happen, but still I think we would be much closer to our goals as a team this year.

Donyell would be a nice pickup for this team. He's a good rebounder, can block shots, and is a decent shooter.

Of course, we would need to atleast get ride of MoT or Howard.

I have been opposed in the past to getting Marshall because of his poor defense against physical players but he is a good rebounder, shoots well and can fit well in a half court setting.
I would welcome him on the team. Mo has gone so far down it's impossible to trade him. I think it's going to be difficult to get Marshall.

hey compare Rose' stats to JJ's and note that JJ's making what 3M? and Rose makes $14M+. Rose also a cancer in Raptors locker room. if we willing to take Rose off their hand they'd take Taylor.

An interesting point Hard Rock. If the Raptors are willing to do that I would be for it.

I thought this will be a 3 way trade involving VC to some other team.... Rose was not mentioned at all...

How does Marshall make this team better? I consider him a slight upgrade over Juwan Howard, at best. Rockets need a point guard who can shoot much more.

While Marshall isn't a GREAT PF he is different than what we have. He will go to the boards, can play decent D, and can knock dwon open shots. He probably cannot get his own shot though. Both Howard and MoT can get their own shot, the problem for us is that they have not been making many of them.

Because hell bring everything this team needs at the 4. Rebounding, defense (at least, weakside) and outside range.

Hes practically a perfect fit for what this team needs at the 4 right now.

I would say we have lost more games due to lack of rebounding than due to lack of outside shooting.

    Some more news....

    http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Basketball/NBA/Toronto/2004/12/16/785479-sun.html

But no day in Raptorland would be complete without another Vince Carter trade rumour.

While the New York Knicks remain the most intent suitor for Carter -- the enigmatic Raptors guard who is on the injured list with a strained left Achilles tendon -- there were rumblings yesterday that the Houston Rockets could be a candidate to make it a three-way transaction.

However, there doesn't appear to be too much substance to those whispers at this point.

A Carter trade to the Big Apple still could happen as soon as today. If not, Mitchell has to keep drilling for oil.

One of these trades have to be more than rumor, right. Each week it's someone new and each week the topics slowly fall off the first page into oblivion. CD and JVG do need to go, there is nothing more I can say than that. I really hope Mario Elie is the next Rocket's coach.
