I attend Rockets games regularly as a season ticket holder, but had not been to one in the past couple weeks.... I have to say that the new pre-game introduction dealio is awesome and a major boost compared to before! Good Job Rockets Marketing and Game Day Entertainment Team! The drummers and chanting had to go . This presentation had loud, vibrating rock music, an actual Rocket lifting off under the scoreboard with smoke and fire and creating a real trembling feeling in your seat that was awesome...what a great illusion...it was like you were at a IMAX show.....then how could you go wrong with the WHO blaring in the background as the players were announced...."Don't get fooled again...." That was really cool and gave me and my crew goosebumps....it was something different and just really unique....It made you stand up and cheer finally....back to the old day intros!!!! Also, loved the players pics on t he scoreboard... oh yea and the game was awesome....1st quarter aside, because you knew the shots were going to start falling as they were getting them. any other thoughts?
yup. that chanting with the drummers and lights on was unprovoking... this has all the trappings of the intros to one of your great bands live in concert...you know how bands open with a bang...this gives you goose bumps....pretty cool. i may be overly excited here because the previous intros were lame--actualy the pre game mix was disjointed and to planned...the drummers were cool to have, but it needed this type of boosting...I like the drummers personally--they have a place, but the mix had to be corrected and now it has
now don't go getting optimistic on me A-Train. You know they will screw something else up to compensate
Since I live out of town I havent been to any of the games but since I have heard nothing but complaints about the old intros I am really glad they listened to the fans and made the change. Nothing beats turning out the lights, getting some heart pumping music going, and getting the fans excited about the game! Props to Tim and the Rockets!
A bottom half of a mocked up smaller version of a Saturn looking rocket is lowered from under the new scoreboard at mid court and lifts off into the scoreboard, after a count down, with all the screens showing that actual side camera shot of a Saturn/Appolo rocket lifting off like you see at IMAX...with real smoke and fire...the illusion is such that when the rocket disappears into the scoreboard the screen shots are traveling up as if you are taking off with it and the rocket noise, music and vibration is so loud is trembles the floor and seats...then The WHO begin blaring.......with the announcer doing his thing.... sorry for the very descriptive narrative..
I wasn't sure how other people would feel about the new intro, but I was pretty pumped after I saw it last night. I noticed they seem to be testing out different ideas for the intros, but I hope this one sticks. Also, I liked how the center scoreboard showed the fg% for both teams throughout the game. I'm a bit of a stat junkie, and it's nice not to focus on a side board that rotates stats to see fg%, 3pm/3pa and ftm/fta. About the only think I'd like to see added would be assists and rebounds next to each players name instead of just fouls and points. If that's not possible, just rotate the stats every 10-20 seconds. B
one more thing....they have really timed the pyros so it matches the down beat at the beginning and end of the WHO song...you know how the end of the song is 4 or 5 down beats all in unison with piano, guitar and drums hitting the same down beat synchronized at the end of "don't get fooled again..." ....hard to explain, but listen to the end of that song and imagine rockets shooting in beat an opposite ends back and forth...telling you it is like the beginning and end of a great concert..... I am not sure if they can stay on track with the timing, but great attempt..
The only thing is that the Power Dancers don't come on to the court until after the intro. I think the Power Dancers should be on the court throughout the entire introduction. But a drastic improvement from the drums. Now if we can do something about the announcer....
Whoever's the first one to get a video of this new intro... (and find a way to post it up here)... gets a HUGE prize.
very good point Gucci....baby steps though...actually I am not sure it was not a safety hazard but, maybe they should be wearing some space gear ala Barbarella (I am aging myself--though not really--saw it late night on skinamax about 10 years ago for the first time--ahh Jane Fonda is her hayday) ya, highschool announcer guy has to go or someone needs to coach his voice and his audibles for certain...he pleads for our chanting instead of doing something more like coaxing....I am all for working with someone, not canning him...someone coach him for sure.. Video is probably coming right around the corner from someone....
Agreed. It would be nice to see for us out of towners that are Rockets fans but wont be able to see the games live.
yes, the new introduction is outstanding. only one comment... BRING OUT THE POWER DANCERS!!! maybe I was distracted by the big rocket, but nothing wrong with a lil booty shakin by the Power Dancers in the Intro!!! I think they waited until after the introductions to take the floor. Have them out there the WHOLE time. Its only the band geeks we dont like.
Why do I get the feeling that everyone will be complaining about this intro by the end of the season?
This intro sounds really cool - can't wait to see it. Thanks for the detailed description montgo. Although, I actually liked the drumming intro. Hmmm... I love The Who and the song "Don't Get Fooled Again", but... doesn't that title seem a little ironic given this squad's history of underachieving? I read that and thought, "so I shouldn't believe we're going to make the playoffs this year?"
