This is Rockets players production per 48 mins.

I know, I know , this could be meaningless, since some scrubs efforts will be vastly inflated. But just for kicks here they are.

You might be able to spot an area for someone that does not play many minutes that he excels on.

Scott Padgett is better than our other PF's in every category. The guys deserves a few starts.

I agree. Let padgett start. This way we have a line up of

    Sura
    Tmac
    JJ
    Padgett
    Yao

With this you only have Yao in the paint because Padgett is able to spread the floor. Now Yao has a lot of room inside to work. This also opens up more lanes for Sura and Tmac to drive, and we have two 3 point shooters on the perimeter waiting for the kick out.

Padgett also hustles. I think our rebounding will improve because he can help Yao on the boards. Plus, I'm pretty sure Padgett plays better defense than Mo Taylor does or ever will.

Also, this way you have Mo go back to his 6th man role as an effective offensive punch. Then work in rotations as needed for more defense or more offense or a good mix of both.

Why is JJ such a poor rebounder? I was surprised to see the PGs above him by a substantial amount.

Small sample size, and the two main PG are below him anyway.

he's not - he is a nice (not outstanding) player from every stat category - your 3 point shooting small forward/shooting guard is not suppose to be getting rebounds...

your power forward and center should be doing that !

He's a poor rebounder for a SF. For a SG, he's probably closer to avg. Defensively if he hangs out exclusively around the perimeter then maybe that's the answer. I was surprised, because he seems to have the energy for it.

Not just based on the above stats, but I think the following players should get more playing time.

Clarence Weatherspoon (we need more rebounding)

Scott Padgett (rebounding, shooting and hustle)

    Dikembe Mutombo (rebounding, Shot blocking)

Bob Sura (fast break, assists, hustle)

Too bad JVG will probably sit him the next 3 games because he missed a 3-pointer.

one more statistic (personal fouls) that I forgot.

Kind of funny for Sura since he played 1 game and fouled out.

It looks like McGrady need to be more aggressive on defense.

2 more stats. These are not per 48 min. They are the actual ratios:

I would disregard anyone with no significan minutes. I think Tyronn Lue has a nice Ast/TO ratio and Scott Padgett has nice Stl/TO ratio.

    Ast/TO
    Andre Barrett 4.00
    Tyronn Lue 3.19
    Bob Sura 3.00
    Scott Padgett 3.00
    Charlie Ward 2.33
    Tracy McGrady 1.97
    Bostjan Nachbar 1.80
    Jim Jackson 1.78
    Ryan Bowen 1.33
    Maurice Taylor 0.93
    Juwan Howard 0.39
    Yao Ming 0.36
    Dikembe Mutombo 0.13
    Clarence Weatherspoon -

    Stl/TO
    Scott Padgett 2.50
    Andre Barrett 2.00
    Charlie Ward 0.83
    Ryan Bowen 0.67
    Jim Jackson 0.53
    Tracy McGrady 0.39
    Tyronn Lue 0.38
    Maurice Taylor 0.34
    Juwan Howard 0.33
    Dikembe Mutombo 0.25
    Bostjan Nachbar 0.20
    Yao Ming 0.13

I'm not opposed to starting Padgett for a game or two to see if it works, but I don't think a person's numbers over 48 minutes tells you anything about how well he would do as a starter. For one thing, he would be matched up with the other teams starter. While I'm sure there are times when he is now, I suspect that it would affect his effectiveness if he spent more time going against a starting caliber forward. There's more to it than raw numbers.

Jackson is a shooting guard and until he played here he was never considered a Small Forward.

He also draws the toughest defensive assignments so he is out of position for rebounds

but he still pulls 4-5 a game (and can go off for 10 any night).

given that, I say he is a nice player... i.e. HE is not the rebounding problem - its the PF and C position
