When Yao gets in the lane, its over. Pure domination around the basket.

I don't want to be rude to our Chinese guests, but Yao is not our best player. Steve Francis is our best player.

Yao has better stats because no one has taken him seriously. Now people have figured out Yao can play, it will be a lot harder for him.

Don't get me wrong, I am a huge Yao fan. However, let's try to kepp everything in perspective.

If Yao becomes Houston's best player, this team will be heading for a championship.

Are you joking? We were close until the 4th during which Yao only touched the ball twice without a single shot. There was no big man offense when we started losing. The problem was that Yao couldn't get open with Najera fronting him and Rudy couldn't make the adjustment to get him the ball. Cuttino and MoT's shooting didn't help either.

Yao was the best player in this game, and he's one of the top centers in the league.

He needs to prove himself to be consistently good to be considered as the Rockets' best player. So quit jumping the gun.

Cuttino went 0 for 8 tonight. If he had put in the 16 or so points, etc etc.. Yao is not our best player. Rudy's system needs a little more time... and his defensive strategy needs an overhaul.

im confused, people were saying that when yao enters the league, players would be extra hard on him because hes a rook, #1 draft, chinese etc. and now youre are saying that things are easy for him now because people will learn how he plays and figure him out. poison logic like that is what prevents oj from getting convicted. so in conclusion, wont it just be hard for him no matter what? hes already shown that hes smart enough to counter his own weaknesses? for a lot of rockets players, comparing him to the dream is starting to pop up more. just look at his foot work, hes pump faking more, they tell him to dunk it more and he does, and his arsenal of shots is amazing, im waiting for his first three pointer.

I don't know....i think it needs some tinkering, but dallas scores on everyone. i'd like to see more presence on the inside. However, i will agree with you that we looked baffled on the pick and roll tonight. I didn't understand why we were giving them so many mismatches in the first half.

    nyquil,

    it's all about adjustments.

First half, nobody put a body on Yao and he just went wild. 4th quarter, Najera sticks to him like glue and uses his body to undercut Yao making it hard for him to get the ball.

That was an adjustment and it worked.

What the Rockets need to do is figure out how to get the ball to Yao. If people front him, they need to lob it over the defender. If he plays behind him, let Yao catch it higher and run the pick and roll.

It's all about adjustments. Now that the NBA has caught on, he wont be able to just patrol the paint.

We've seen the turnaround J, and the move to the baseline. If he can fake to the baseline and make hookshots or go back to the middle, his repertoire wil be unstoppable.

People catch on quick in the NBA. It took 3 quarters for the Mavs to stop Yao. Rudy needs to counteract that next game.

Yao was the most dominating player in today's game!
but SF is way better, we need SF to take over the game in last quarter so we can win.(which he didnt do tonite)

What was Rox's score like when Ming was not on. What was the starting lineups. Without Ming, this game was over in the first quarter, period.

ballerman, i'm not going to say ming is the best player on this team. But if you're going to say that we lost tonight cause rudy went back to the basic focusing all the attention on the big man, then you and charles barkley should both be kissing my a$$.

before yao entered the game, the mavs were leading the game over the rockets. the rockets backcourt was obviously outplayed by the mavs backcourt until yao came in and provided some instant offense against the obviously overmatched mavs. let's be real. the mavs don't have no legitimate center. shawn bradley might be good against some teams, but he was obviously overmatched by yao's array of offensive skills and was plagued by early foul trouble. And let's not forget that nice facial when yao dunked on bradley and the nice give and go between yao and francis when yao got double teamed and passed off the ball to stevie franchise. the offense around yao was drawing defense to him and giving the shooting guards openings to make easy dunks. in the 2nd half, yao was benched and that's when the mavs started to pull away and increase their lead. yao barely played in the third quarter and in the fourth quarter, i don't even remember seeing him touch the ball.

yao ming might not be the rockets best player yet. but you got to give credit where its due.

Im not saying that Yao is our best player. However, he is the only reason we were even in the game. Had it not been for him, there would have been a 20 point halftime lead and the game would have been out of reach soon after that. Yao kept us close all game. They started pulling away when Yao was unable to get the ball on offense. Once our guards start hitting the outside shot, then we will be awesome.

It's hard to base a player's potential by his rookie year. Usually the opposing teams have enough scouting to determine what the player's weaknesses are. It's part of the reason why "Sophomore walls" usually hit 2nd year players. We have yet to see how Yao will adjust, and calling him the best player now is premature. The Rockets lost their momentum when Steve and Yao sat down BTW.

How am I biased? Im Chinese too but Im a Rockets fan first.

Some people are Rockets fans but hate Yao b/c he's Chinese.
Other people love Yao Ming but dont give a damn how the Rockets do as long as Yao succeeds.

I am a Rockets fan and a Yao Ming fan.

Steve Francis is the Rockets best player. Of course you can say Im biased, but Ive been watching the Rockets for 25 years. How long have you followed the Rockets?

I hope Yao Ming succeeds because 1. He's a Rocket and 2. Because he's Chinese and so am I.

    Feishen,

Great post! Ming has to be the first option if the Rox want to make the Playoffs! He's the smartest player also. He made others better. SF doesn't make his teamates better. Ming was directing CM to his spot. Sad! Rudy hasn't taught his guards the nuances of the game. Murphy needs to put the mike down and teach the And 1 All-Stars (SF,CM&MN). They refuse to defend, make the simple pass or make you say that was a smart play. If the coach is unorganized, so will the brand of ball we see from the Rox.
