Rice "is a Houston Rocket now and we are very happy to make that statement," general manager Carroll Dawson said. "From last week, everyone understands how happy we are to get him and to get this finalized now is a big thrill."

"Right now he's not healthy to play today," Rockets team doctor Walter Lowe said. "As long as he proceeds along with his rehabilitation he'll be able to play by the time it's time to start playing.

"He's just come out of a case. He's had a bunch of treatment. He's starting to work out. It looks better than in January when he had the MRI. He's just got some more rehab to do before he should pound on it on a basketball court."

Asked if Rice would be ready for the start of next season, Lowe said: "Our thoughts are that he should be available."

A healthy Rice will fit well with the Rockets, Dawson said.

"We looked at miles and miles of film with him even back to his Charlotte days and he's already had a very good, brilliant career and I think he's going to bring a lot to this team," Dawson said.

I really hope we don't regret this. This doesn't look like an improvement at all from his condition last season.

Seeing miles of films back to the Charlotte days will not make Rice the same player that he was.He is clearly not fit to play basketball even after the end of last year's season. How do you expect him to perform at a high level without getting any practice?
I don't think we should have picked him up with his injury, age and the length of his contract. No amount of future considerations can rectify the problem, nevertheless I'm glad that Les had the guts to get something more out of the Knicks and the Mavs. I hope we won't regret this deal, but it doesn't look promising.

Nope. But I'm willing and even hoping to.

However, is still think it's highly unlikely that the recipe works.

I'm just trying to keep an open mind.

No point in bashing now that Rice is for the long run...

Fair enough. I keep hoping that Cato will do something other than being a corpse, but I have my doubts. :D
