If Cato is traded, that's another $6 mil in cap space, for a total of $18-$20 mil to sign Jackson and Horry. Olajuwon, Taylor, and Norris are all ours, so we can exceed the cap to keep them.

Instead of making a new topic, I thought I would pose a new question: b/c of the situation that Vancouver is in, they may be desperate enough to give us their pick this year or their pick next year. With that in mind, and with Boston holding the 10th and 11th picks, would u trade Vancouver's pick this year or next for Boston's picks and future considerations? The 10th and 11th should get us 2 quality players in this very deep draft.

Let's say we sign Webber, will he stay?

He hasn't stayed anywhere for that long. Is it too risky to try and structure a team, even partially, around someone who may bolt after a couple of years.

No doubt C- Webb is good, and I think with a coach like Rudy, and a great team around him, he could be great, and on paper, the Rockets would be incredible. But what about the chemistry? What about C-Webb's tendency to bolt from teams? How much are the Rockets, or any other posters willing to pay for C-Webb?

    A few points:

    1. $20M wouldn't be enough to sign Jackson, Horry, Olajuwon and Taylor.

    2. In your above scenario you were signing the FAs before trading Cato.

    3. NJ is over the cap so if you trade with them, then they'll have to send you 85% of Cato's salary back.

    4. Why would the Clippers want Cato at $6M, when they can draft Curry, Brown or Diop for $2.5M?

Since it seems that Chris Webber is heading East and Shandon Anderson is leaving as well, how's this for the perfect Rockets offseason? First, use the cap room reserved for Webber to resign Hakeem, Mo Taylor, and Moochie. Then, use the rest to bring in free agents Robert Horry and Marc Jackson. Finally, to once and for all rid ourselves of the cancer that is Kelvin Cato, package him, the 13th, and the 22nd pick in the draft to move into the top 8 (New Jersey, Clippers) and select Shane Battier. If a trade partner cannot be found, get Richard Jefferson at 13 and ship Cato and 22 for a future first rounder. Just imagine our team next year if everything fell into place: Starting 5: C-Olajuwon/Jackson PF-Taylor/Thomas SF-Battier/Horry SG-Mobley PG-Francis/Norris. Tell me what you think.

Let me get this straight, you're going to sign Olajuwon, Taylor, Horry and Jackson with $12M to $13M in cap space?

Seeing as all of those guys could easily get the mid-level exception ($4.5M) from several teams, who's going to play here for a substantial pay cut? Golden State has the right to match any offer for Jackson, so you'd have to pay him more than the $4.5M that they have available. So that leaves just under $8.5M to resign Olajuwon, Taylor and Horry. How much do you plan on paying each of these guys?
