I don’t know why Trae Young is never mentioned? He is somewhat valued low enough for us to get without giving too much of our assets, I think they would love to take a chance on Reed, Cam and PHX picks along with Jalen for Salary match. Might be a steep price but we can let Fred walk if we sign true PG who can pass and hit long range opening up opportunities to Amen and Sengun

Great idea. We can pair him with FVV and Reed Sheppard for an all-NBA accounting team.

The best answer would be KD without losing too much of your team.

Reed is included in the trade and no need to keep Fred once we get Trae

My worry about Trae is the cost. I think your proposed trade is too much especially given Young's contract. The other issue with Trae, is that even with him, the Rockets need a offensive system. He won't work when the Rockets have the most simplistic offensive game plan of all the NBA playoff teams. You are also trading Reed and Jalen when they are super low valued as well and cost controlled which to me says you are not actually buying low on Trae.

There is no ideal target, because outside of like Halliburton who is not available, every major addition is only the first step to building out a complete team.

For guys like Durant or Giannis, the Rockets would have to make multiple other steps to finish the process of making a complete team to cover Durant's injuries/age/defense or Giannis's shooting/finishing flaws. That would probably spend all their future capital to maximize the 2-3 years window for those guys.

Even someone like Booker is not an end of game closer and bigger defensive liability than Jalen has been this season. So at best that helps the team get to the 2nd/3rd round.

Even if Jalen cannot be a No.1, he is still young enough to become a better starting level player. And even if you think he is overpaid, next season he has the 52nd highest salary in the league. That honestly isn't that bad. There is no evidence he will become some malcontent if his role on the team changes. So just wait it out and see what offers come eventually.

It's frustrating because the rebuild is ahead of schedule but taking the next step seems extremely difficult and easy to backfire.

Completely agree, and nothing is ever a sure bet. You are just consistently taking calculated bets, and hoping enough pay off and more so than the ones that don't.

I think my view though is that if this rebuild fails or hits a glass ceiling, the process and the journey is more enjoyable to me if they don't try to microwave it with a Booker or Durant. Sure if they can get them without giving up all their picks and young players, then definitely.

I get how everyone wants a title, and it feels like it has been forever. I became a fan as a kid right before the 94-95 run. But most fans only see one or two title stretches of their favorite team over their lifetimes. If those few years are the only ones you enjoy or take pleasure in, is it really worth being a diehard fan?

Trade Green for no returning salary.

Sign Ty Jerome as a FA.
