It is old news but talked to Feigan and he said the Rockets offered 3.5-4 million to Gortat. I don't remember a figure ever being reported. Just passing along. Mods merge/lock as necessary
No, that's about what I thought the offer would be. If it's the entire MLE, you be paying too much for one position and possibly Morey thought if Gortat accepted there would be enough left for guys like Von (if they made him an offer) or the 2nd rounders.
well teams were lining up to use their mle on gortat. Morey shouldve known better or we didnt want gortat that badly
Ok I was told in another thread that if the Magic matched the offer to Gortat recieved from Dallas there could be NO sign and trade with them until Dec. I was reading a chat with an NBA guy and he suggested that if that happened we should trade Battier for Gortat...I am confused can we sign and trade with Orlando if they matched or not?
Orlando can trade with anyone else other than Dallas 30 days after they match. Much like the Charlotte deal with Landry
Ok so if they match, which Gortat seems to think they will, then we could trade with Orlando for him?! Nice...The NBA guy I read suggested the Rox should deal Shane for Gortat straight up but that seems like a lot to give up yet he is the only legit center still somewhat avilable.
If Morey was offering that much... then that's pretty much what Gortat's worth. The Mav's overpaid. Then again, what's new? (See: Kidd, Jason)
No, they can't. Restricted free agents, like regular free agents, can't be traded until December 15 of the season they sign. As you mentioned, if Orlando matches, Gortat can not be traded to Dallas within the next year, and can block a trade to any other team.
Darn...ok then lets get back to Battier/Brooks for Rudy F./Outaw and Bayless or Joel P. Thanks again for clarification!
Thanks for the clarification Nike! I knew he couldn't be traded to the team that originally offered the contract matched.
He knew he had to impress him somehow because he didn't want to overpay like the Mavs did. That is genious if you think about it...
OK...this is Feigen's latest blog from summer league http://blogs.chron.com/nba/2009/07/rockets_rookies_rule_what_coul.html Interest note is below and further confuses me...I've been told twice now that if Orlando matches Dallas' offer we can not trade for Gortat till Dec but in his column he states: If the Mavericks get Marcin Gortat - though I've been hearing in the past couple days that the Magic will match and try to deal him - Dampier would seem expendable. Does this mean that he will get traded this offseason or later on at the deadline? Just want to clarify for my own knowledge really. Thanks guys
OK I think I may have answered my question...I dug this up at http://www.nbpa.com/cba_articles/article-XI.php#section4 (g) After exercising its Right of First Refusal as described in this Section 5, the ROFR Team may not trade the Restricted Free Agent for one (1) year, without the player’s consent. Even with the player’s consent, for one (1) year, neither the ROFR Team exercising its Right of First Refusal nor any other Team may trade the player to the Team whose Offer Sheet was matched. OK so from this I believe that Gortat could be traded to the Rox with HIS CONSENT? Please confirm guys and let me know if I am reading this right! Thanks again!
Ok...Well its looking like Utah wont match Portland's offer to Millsap so Joel P may be our next center!
