I think he means the 2001-2002 Rockets vs. the 2000-2001 Kings.

Not sure which year he is talking about but Rockets (barring major injuries...I know, bite my tongue!!) will definitely make playoffs this year. Clips may also challenge. Feel that Suns will be out and I'm not convinced that Wolves really bettered themselves with trade (for the long run they have definitely weakened themselves). Rox vs. Sac??, we should definitely be closing the gap.

The only position where the Kings have the advantage is the PF spot.

Christie is a way better defender than Cuttino so that matchup is pretty even. Also, the Kings have a better bench which helps also.

Christie may be a good defender, but to say that a matchup between him and Cuttino Mobley is "pretty even" is pretty laughable. Christie can defend well, and he has a good shot, but Mobley is a far superior player.

No, a Christie vs Mobley matchup is pretty even. There's certain intangibles that Christie brings to the court.

Christie's being underrated here. His defense is excellent, he's unselfish with the ball, and he can score when needed. He's also a bit longer than Cuttino, which certainly is an advantage.

I think Cuttino has more upside... and I think he's more of a playmaker. But would the Kings have done a one-for-one trade? Probably not. They didn't need another scorer. So I think they probably were even this year. Maybe a slight edge to Cat.

The Cat: btw, I was wondering if you could do me a favor and just EMAIL me when a team opens up in the fantasy league? Don't want to miss out by forgetting to check.

Peja had an excellent season last year. While I think Griff is going be very good soon, and for a long time, no way he produces at a near-all star level next year. Also, Divac had a pretty good year last season, and is certainly a better bet to stay healthy than a 38-year-old Hakeem is.

    Haven,

    I'll give you an email.

As far as Christie and Mobley, I can't see this as even close. Christie is a solid defender, but that can only take you so far. He is a good player, but he simply can't take over the game like Cuttino can. Cuttino has a better jumper, much quicker first step, is a better creator, a better playmaker, and he brings leadership and hustle. In addition, his defense has rapidly improved, and right now in my opinion he is an above average defender. Christie does play good defense, can shoot, and he has some nice intangibles. But he's not in Cuttino's league. As good as Christie may be defensively, I still can't put him with that elite group of SG's who can just dominate a game and take it over. Cuttino is in that group, at least by what I've seen.

    Jackson, Hedo, Pollard, and Barry

    Norris, Morris, Cato, and Bullard

    ?

I'd rather have the Kings bench.

I don't care what Mobley can do offensively, Christie was second in the defensive player of the year voting. That is a better feat than being a playmaker on a 45-win team.

Again, you're going by statistical arguments and, if I had to guess, media attention too. As a Knicks fan, you hear about the rest of the league from a national perspective, and the Kings got a whole lot more press than we did. And even though Christie is a good defender, I'll assume you missed the game in Sacramento in which Mobley completely crossed Christie over twice, and dominated him. Christie is a good defensive player, but not a dominating one. He can't stop the better one on one players in the league. Mobley is a dominating offensive player. Christie isn't in Mobley's league.

Now, for the benches, the Kings probably have the advantage, although not as big as many think.

    6th man-- Norris vs. Jackson

Edge: Even. Jackson gets much more hype, and deservedly so, but Moochie is one of the most underrated players in the league in my opinion, even by his own fans. The impact he has on the game with his court vision, change of pace, and ability to break down defenders is something you need to see to give him credit for.

7th man-- Pollard vs. Kenny Thomas

Edge: Slightly Kings. KT has good footwork, is aggressive, and can rebound. But he's still not a good finisher. Pollard is a guy who really can make a difference-- he's tough, gets all the loose balls, has a nice hook inside, and can block some shots.

8th man: Turkoglu vs. T. Morris

Edge: Kings. Turkoglu showed a lot of promise last year, especially in that series against the Lakers. He may be as good as Peja in a year or so. However, Morris still has good potential in his own right.

The rest of the benches are just spare parts...Jon Barry, Lawrence Funderburke, Darrick Martin vs. Walt Williams, Kelvin Cato, Matt Bullard... pretty interchangeable. Small edge Kings overall, but not as big as many think.

I think that T-Mo will really surprise this year. Especially after that very sub-par senior season.
