Rockets Acquire 54th Pick in NBA Draft

HOUSTON – Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey announced today that the Rockets have acquired a second-round selection (54th overall) from the Orlando Magic for cash considerations. The pick was originally obtained by the Magic from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Rockets moved up two spots from their own second-round pick (56th overall), which was sent to the Milwaukee Bucks to acquire Mike James back on Feb. 24, 2005. Houston now owns the 26th and 54th selections in tonight’s NBA Draft presented by Sprite.

Woo Hoo back into the 2nd round. And once again with ORLANDO. We made that deal last year with Orlando.

How about Dominic McGuire there at #54? Sign me up.

Here comes....everbody say it with me.....BIG BABY!!!

IF he lasts this long I would be surprised, but he is overweight and just sprained his ankle. Maybe the ankle will be a blessing. for us

Nice to be back in the 2nd round. Adds some more intrigue to this draft.....Do we really have 7 hours left til the draft...........

good deal. i'd like to get into the 40's but nevertheless rockets had to get a second round pick. could prove helpful in a trade or adding talent. gold can be found in the 2nd round

    I knew they would, I just had a feeling they'd get a 2nd rounder.

Please get a PG. A real one.

Woohoo! I hated being done with the draft in the first round! I hope they buy more 2nd round picks and package them to move up. There are quite a few risks worth taking that should fall to the early 2nd round.

Interestingly enough, Sun Yue is projected to go right around there. He might not even be a bad pick at 54.

What the Rockets can do now since they have a 2nd round pick.... Is if they want to move up HIGHER in the 2nd round they could just swap picks with someone and then give up a 2nd rounder in a future draft. So by getting this pick it gives them more options.

Interesting to see if Morey really values the draft in the building/improving process regardless of position, or if he just values this draft.

Based on NBADraft.net's mock draft, Sun Yue would be in our range, but Glen Davis, Nick Fazekas and pretty much every notable point guard would be out.

My sense is that any player we'd take here (assuming we don't use it in a trade package) would be a project player who either goes to the NBDL or (if he's a foreign player) stays overseas.
