In one of their updates, Matt Jackson (actually, might have been Jeremy Foster), 610 AM Sports Radio reports that the Rockets do plan on doing a 2nd interview with both Dunleavy and Van Gundy but DO NOT plan on interviewing Rick Carlisle.

That sucks. I guess Les and CD don't like how he slowed down Detroit's offense.

I just listened to Carlisle on the Dan Patrick show and was impressed. I think I would rather have him over JVG and Dunleavy. I don't understand what harm an interview would do. The Rocket's brass has me lost of this one. I don't understand their strategy.

Must be out of their price range. How much are they planning on paying Rudy to watch game film for the next two years again??..........

You're on the right track. Right now you should be completely lost.

Why would they not interview the brightest young coach in the game?

We don't get Brown and we don't interview Carlisle - the 2 coaches most known for getting the most out of their team.

This is the worst of all worlds. Heck, why don't we just hire Kurt Rambis or Lon Kruger.

Man, Carlisle would had been awesome. :(

Either way as long as Yao Ming and Steve Francis are on this team the future appears solid regardless of whomever coaches the team. But if I had my choice JVG is looking more and more attractive.

Is there a hire anywhere who could now positively impact the fan base? I think not. Phil Jackson ain't coming. Michael as a coach? LOL. Maybe Magic will buy into the Rox and coach for two years then move upstairs? LOL again.

First the Buffalo Bills fiasco, then deciding on the name Texans for the football team, then Enron, then the naming of Minute Maid Park, then the running over the dentist case, now this.

I'm sure there are more, but I just can't remember right now.

Carlisle is youg, talented and ambitious. Why would CD want a guy like that around?

Carlisle wouldn't fit here, according to the reasons for his dismissal.

One he grated on all the detroit players after only 2 years, and two he doesn't mesh with our open front office compared to the rest of the league.

He needs to tone down his act and be nicer to people in charge before he gets another chance.

It's not his coaching ability that is questioned, its his style and his demeanor with his superiors.

Maybe, but why not at least interview him? That would be a good question to ask him.

I know! MAN....at least interview him....unless he rejected. Oh well. Too bad.

The Rockets are really focusing now...Jeff Van Gundy or Mike Dunleavy.

To paraphrase Joe Dumars, if you got rid of every coach because of player complaints, nobody would be coaching.

In the end, it was all about Carlisle's relationship with the owner.

Les isn't 80 years old and he's not the king of PR. He knows what he wants and doesn't care if he offends people.

So why not get a no nonsense coach who's more interested in substance over style.

Sounds like Carlisle and Les would be a match made in heaven.

I'm not too sure about this. I mean, it sounds like Dumars was the guy causing all the trouble. There wouldn't have been anything wrong if Dumars didn't keep meddling with how Carlisle wanted to run the team.

Les and CD could be talking to Carlisle in secret so they won't have to fight a bidding war for him.

Is there a rule in the NBA regarding whether you have to disclose that you are talking to a coach?
