http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/rumors/post/Rockets-not-dealing-Kevin-Martin?urn=nba-269785 This is good news IMO I wanna see him with Yao
According to that quote, the Rocket aren't dealing anyone. So, that's it folks. No trades for the Rockets this year.
"We talked in general about the future," Morey told the paper. "For sure, we're certainly not looking to trade anybody on the team right now." - Morey LOL but tomorrow if a good deal comes through he is gone!
Exactly. Morey chooses his words very carefully just like any smart business exec should do but often times does not. This means nothing except that Martin is not going to be dealt. Anyone else is fair game.
Morey always says stuff like, we're happy with what we have now. Or, we're not looking to trade anyone right now. And then what happens.... But he's probably safe.
Well Morey better not say he is looking to trade his players away! I think he is always looking to improve the team and if the right deal comes along...SO LONG and if you don't believe me then please go ask Carl Landry how he is doing in Sac Town.
I'd think that Morey's statement implies exact what it says. Not that we wont be trading anybody, but that we aren't looking to trade anybody. So, if some all-star shook loose from another team, and we were in a position to benefit (and provide the most benefit to the other team), a trade could still happen. Just because Morey says he isn't looking to trade anybody doesn't mean that other teams aren't looking to trade with the Rockets.
I doubt that Daryl Morey has ever even seriously entertained the notion of trading Kevin Martin. Not for Chris Bosh. Not for Carmelo Anthony. Not for anyone. Martin is a guy who Morey has lusted after (or whatever the GM equivalent of lust is) for 2-3 years. He is one of the most efficient wing players--if not THE most efficient--in NBA history from an offensive standpoint. He is also a perfect fit playing alongside Yao Ming, who we all know isn't going anywhere (at least not this season). The meritless rumors and random trade proposals on this BBS have driven most people here to actually believe that Morey would trade Kevin Martin. But I never seriously believed that it was anything more than a remote possibility. Short of Kobe or Lebron, there just isn't anyone out there (including Carmelo, although it's damn close) who's worth trading away "Morey's Guy".
Melo= Beast It could still happen. You can't alienate your players with speculation that may never see the light of day. Everybody you have, every draft pick you make, publicly, is exactly the guy you were after. The one thing not said here is this is an entertainment business where the value is in the superstars. Martin might be more efficient than Melo, but his game is subtle and a little ugly. Also our current marquee player is still a question mark. Given an equal win total, who sells more tickets?
This means nothing, IMO. Typical Morey. All he is saying here is that we are not actively soliciting trades (as we were with McGrady). I'm not looking to sell my house, either; but if someone offers me a swap for their pad in River Oaks, I am likely to move. That being said, I really doubt Martin is going anywhere. He's a much more valuable piece than a lot of people here seem to realize.
I don't get it. Martins a efficient scorer but he's not a clutch performer down the stretch and poor defender. Why would Morey not be interested in trading for Carmelo? Regardless of what critics say, Melo's too good for a young for the Rockets to pass up.
That's not his ideal position -- sort of like playing Chuck Hayes at center. It can be done, but the disadvantages are highly exploitable.
Melo doesn't play defense either. Besides the Rockets may have no choice but to let him pass seeing as he wants to be somewhere else.
If he disappoints(and I don't think he will), then we would be stuck with him. What team would want to pay a disappointing player 12 million per year?
