I would like to be a fly on the wall in the room where the people who approve these things are. Someone was like yeah this looks great lets go with that.
That's the bottom line. It's also probably: "The less stitches we have to pay those sweat shop workers in China to make the jerseys the better. Hey, I got an idea, what about just gluing the words on?!"
I really like the idea of 1 jersey type (city) changing every year. Reminds me of soccer. 3 jerseys that stay the same, 1 that you can get creative and different with, sounds great in theory. And about half (maybe less) of them around the league do this well. But the other half have just absolutely no thought put into them, just basic and nothing "city" about them (at least these say "htown," some don't even have that minimal effort). I think the Rockets past jerseys really lend themselves to these city jerseys but they aren't taking advantage of it. I hate the pajama era Blues, but for 1 year? You could do a series of different color schemes on the pinstripes. Do a Ketchup and Mustard one, a black and red, a red and white, etc. Its a messy design that can be played with a lot. I think the classic championship jerseys are the most iconic and clean. Do a primarily Mustard version and a primarily black version. I think they've done a decent job with that in the past. I like the Dunstronauts, the 3 jersey combination pinstripes, the Nasa themed Htown ones. Even the powder blues were a good *idea imo. But they will forever be associated with the destruction of one of the greatest runs in Rockets history and I will always hate those. (Another Houston team that did a good job with that this year is the Dynamo, their Purple "Still Holdin" jerseys scream CITY jersey). This year is just soooo.....basic. Nothing interesting about them.
I was ready to hate on these jerseys but taking a peak at all the jerseys this year - it’s definitely more on the “I don’t hate it” spectrum compared to the rest.
Those are about as dull as they could have conceived them. It's almost like let's do the least we can and see if these dumb asses will buy them. Sorry, if I'm offending someone who loves these, but not my taste (probably because I'm old).
How can you have a championship honorary jersey without a single feature of the original jerseys and or something to signify this event?! Just some words on the bottom left does not suffice. These designers and the ones who approve them…idiots!
