Currently , I have to vote SF3. But in the long run, I think we have two MVP in Rox team. These two will lead Rox to the Final.
I agree. Yao is not our MVP...not yet. But he most likely will be come it. Stevie is ours for the franchise....after Yao's rookie year is uncertain. 12 assists ....damn stevie. U ROCK!
While stat wise it is undoubtedly Francis, I think Yao's defensive presence is underrecognized. The record when the team/Yao is blocking well speaks for itself, and Yao does an excellent job holding his ground against players driving the lane. Give him 2+ more years and he will learn how to hold his ground and time the block. Anyway, defense still wins, imo, and Steve is horrible at it, while Yao is respectable, if not the backbone defensively.
More people are coming to see the Rox than ever b4. Golden State set an attendance record last night for a home game. Yao not only adds talent to this squad but the social polish that we have lacked for some time. Thanks to team Yao and team Tim's efforts we have one of the "sexiest" situations in the NBA...that's why Yao is my MVP.
Hmm......it's tough. Co-MVPs? Cuz Francis and Yao are both equal. Yes. Yao has changed the team in every single way possible......almost. But Francis is still our man. Yao's just a rookie. Later on...maybe he will be our sole MVP. But I still think Francis is a big part of our team. MOBLEY.....HECK NO. I want him to be a role player who can serve as a super sharp shooter and drain 3's all day. Mo Taylor.......well.....he's our 6th man of the year. Most Valuable Player of the Rockets Bench.
Steve Francis is our best player BUT without Yao we wouldnt be in the playoff race so I went with Yao
I think a Yao-less Rockets team would have a better record than a Francis-less Rockets team, and that's why I vote for Steve. I mean, come on: Cato MoT/Griff Posey/Rice Mobley Francis vs Ming/Cato MoT/Griffin Posey/Rice Mobley Moochie That's how I made my pick. Yao wouldn't have had such a good relationship with the players had Francis not "taken him in". Also, Yao came into the league under horrible circumstances, so I doubt he'd be able to carry this team to anything in his first season. Remember, we projected to make the playoffs with Cato at C and the #5 pick being a solid, bench player, while concluding that Ming, Williams, Gooden, Wagner, and Dunleavy would be gone. So I think Francis helped the Rockets this season slightly more than Yao did. Of course, I don't think we'd make the playoffs if one or the other was out. We need both, and it's not a competition between the 2. I'm just glad we have both of them.
Cool thread, first off. I think the Rox will have a situation like the Lakers have in terms of many discussions -- healthy ones mind you -- on who is the MVP of the Rox. How many teams can say they will have two great players like that! Not many, I can tell you that... As for my vote. It's tough b/c how do you distinguish between who's been more valubale. I know the Rox need both the Dynasty and the Franchise to succeed, y'know? I can count a number of times when the Rox would not have been able to win if it weren't for the play of #3 or and/or #11. With that said, I went with Wink, if for nothing more than Yao is still a rook'. Say if the roles were switched (Francis is the rook' and Yao in his third-fourth season) I would've gone with Yao. Also, even though Yao is becoming more and more another very viable option in the clutch, I still remember the many clutch situations Stevie has come through in this season. it was close for sure.
I agree, it's kind of a tie for MVP, at least for now. Last night's game against Golden State was the perfect example. Steve, who was bashed so much for not having what it takes to adjust to the point guard position, led the offense and knocked down a triple double. Yao, who seemed to miss a dozen shots, still had a great offensive game and his defensive presence makes the opposition change their shots inside constantly. But the Rockets WIN because these guys both get their teammates involved and step up when it's time to score. When they don't, the Rox lose. Both are going to be a force for this team for a long time.
Hard to say. Steve has been more consitent than Yao on offense. But Steve defense has really hurt the team this season with players like Boykins torching us. I'd have to give the slight edge to Yao because when he has a good game the team usually wins. I can't really say the same about Steve.
They should share it for Yao Mings Rookie Season. After he is NBA Educated, ( after a course of Moses Malone),he will stand alone.
This has to be on the all-time post list ....if there were such a list of course. Really couldn't be more true and said as short and to the point as you said it, ewfd! I know we diss Mobley a lot, but he really....well, you all know *lol* He's improved, but not to the point where he makes you believe he could be a number three ro four option behind Yao, Francis. I mean, what happens next season when Yao is getting the 40+ minutes? Plus, it's not like Yao' s not going to get stronger/better and Stevie is steadily improving. I think Cat would be improving not to be a lesser option, but improving to actually take his game to a, dare I say, "another level offensively."
Wow -- look how close the voting is between Stevie and Yao! And you really couldn't go wrong voting for either one. It would've been a cop-out/bush if the poll said: Who's the Rockets MVP? Yao Francis Yao and Francis (too easy) Mobley Taylor *lol*
