I'm not surprised they did that to Steve.
But to Mario Elie? Come on, he's an all time Rocket.

What are they going to do now?
Replace Calvin Murphy with Cynthia Cooper!?

Why didn't he stick with #12? I'm sure Baloney wouldn't care

The fair weather Rocket fan wouldn't know history of #17 :(

    #3

I could only imagine how many points Steve is going to drop on us after seeing that Sura has his number. I remember Steve wanted #23 but Calvin had his retired and he wanted his number to be retired also as a Rocket. Also I remember Steve being at Hakeem's number retirement.See a number does mean something, just like words..
Like when Eddie Sefko labeled the Rockets "CHOKE CITY"...
Mario Elie said it helped motivate them to the 1st title.

Man, I mean Steve's number ain't retired, and I'm sure it never will be as a Rocket... but the dude was our team for the last 5 years. If only they could wait a few years to give us time to forget about him. Oh well, no big thing really.

Why do some people make such a big deal out of these numbers. Good lord. First Mobley and now Francis and Elie. If every semi-decent Rocket get their numbers "retired", would there be any numbers left to use? I mean, come on. Mario Elie? If his number is supposedly off limits, what about Robert Horry? Kenny Smith? Sam Cassell? Chucky Brown? Otis Thorpe?

If a number truly deserves to be retired, it would be stitched on a jersey hanging at Toyota Center.

I'm still mad at Steve for taking Derrick Chievous' number. You should've shown the Band-Aid Man some respect, Steve!

What do you people want? I mean there are only so many numbers that a player can pick from. Traditionally, basketball numbers only go from 00 to 55, so it's not like they can pick from one through a million and just pick old players' numbers just to spite fans...

    indaclubam2pm,

Juwan took Mobley's number because he saw Mobley take his old number... I mean their press conference was first, from my understanding he was going to be #99, but as soon as he saw Orlando's press conference on ESPN and Mobley was holding up his old #5 jersey (which he was under the understanding Orlando was going to retire that number in his honor)... he ripped off #99 and replaced it with #5...

    or something like that...:p
