You can't just say there is a rivalry brewing because one or two teams are playing well. Maybe there is a Heat-Jazz rivalry brewing. They are both 3-0...that's going to be one hell of a rivalry.
yeah malone and stockton arent there anymore... its not the same. but i basically hate every team besides the rockets. it would also make more sense for us to have a rivalry with someone in our own state.
speaking of which, the suns are looking very impressive, with a lot of firepower, they might be the offensive powerhouse in the league and are quickly making it into my top five favorite teams despite how much i disliked them two years ago. The jazz were in my top five last year and have moved up. btw, rox is who i cheer for, the others i just like to watch. 1. Rox-dikembe, yao, tmac, boki, lue, JJ, we've got every type of player you like to cheer for. 2. Jazz 3. Kings (has been edging closer to the exit) 4. Suns 5. Heat
The Suns are a team that right now will thrive with their high tempo offense style while many teams adjust to all their new faces. However they lack size inside (Stoudemire being the only real big man on their roster) and so you will see them slowly start to loose more games as teams with dominant big men begin to figure out how to play together. Utah is a team with though that has the pieces to be the next detriot pistons. They are coached by a very good coach, sloan, and have several real good players (lacking a true offensive star). With this being said the Rockets are better
I think now that Utah and Houston have switched divisions there won't be as large of a rivalry like we saw in the 1990s. However, I think if both teams start to compete year in and year out, meet a few times in the playoffs, you'll start to see the rivalry build again. Right now I think Utah's biggest rival is Denver, I mean that makes sense. They're the only teams from the Rocky Mountain region, both located in the NW Division and of course battled it out last year for the 8th seed. But of course we'll always have the Summet!
i think the spurs will be our next big rivalry. both of us will be good for a very long time now, and duncan and yao can battle it out inside while tmac and ginobili will battle on the perimeter.
True rivalries are born in the play-offs where one team keeps getting knocked out by the other year after year. I don't see this happening with the Jazz. Yes, they have a good record and play smart. But, unless you think that we'd lose to the Jazz in a 7-game series, I don't think we have a rivalry. Lets just hope we aren't on the losing end of the stick once the play-off start. Whomever knocks us out of the play-off will be our rival: LA last year, but they are a different team this year, as our we! SA, Minnesota, Dallas and Phoenix are more likely to give us trouble. Erick Dampier's offensive rebounds with Dallas will kill us if we don't find a PF/C that can block him out. Yao? MoT? Howard? Deke? Dampier's comments should be locker room material for Yao. He can't be allowed to give the Mav extra shot after extra shot!
I agree this is more of a possibility because both our teams are developing at the same pace, more or less. Maybe the Suns are a little better right now. But more importantly, there is already a personal rivalry between Amare and Yao. I don't know what Yao thinks of Amare, but I'm pretty sure Amare doesn't like Yao.
I still hate the celtics for 80 and 86 so of course i hate the jazz. How can you ever not hate the Jazz... here's my top 10 franchises I hate. 1. Bills (sorry but that game still kills me) 2. Jazz 3. Celtics 4. Lakers 5. Braves 6. Mets 7. Suns 8. Sonics 9. Steelers (btw he was in bounds) 10. Jags
i think before the dust settles that dallas will become the new rivalry. they're playing well, they're in texas, dampier seems to have an issue with yao (comments made last week in addition to those made last year), and they've always spanked us in the past.
Exactly. The reason we had a rivalry with the Jazz is because we played so many times during the postseason. It's one thing if you see the Jazzholes flop for 4 games during the regular season, but another to see them flop over and over in big playoff games year after year. It was the same with Seattle, whose zone defense, back when zone wasn't allowed, was always killing the Rockets. Right now, the Rockets can't have any rivalry. We've played a whopping 5 playoff games in the past 5 years. We have to start kicking ass in the playoffs before any rivalry can form.
