Just now I happened to check out some statistics honors for clutchfans' videos on youtube (http://youtube.com/user/clutchfans). From the latest videos, you can clearly see Rockets' international fan base. For example: the video Kirilenko flopper (http://youtube.com/watch?v=9StU1aTrns8) has the following honors: #29 - Most Viewed (Today) - Taiwan #96 - Most Viewed (Today) - Sports - New Zealand #72 - Most Viewed (Today) - Sports - Hong Kong #7 - Most Viewed (Today) - Sports - Taiwan I wonder why there are so many fans in New Zealand. Also, where is mainland China, is it because there is no Chinese Youtube website?
Pre-Yao, many international fans became rox fans because of Hakeem. Australia gets NBA feeds...for a long time. So I assume NZ did/does. I've been told there are a lot of Hakeem fans because, you know, some people chose Jordan and some people wanted to be a fan of someone other than Jordan. Plus, they were tired of all the Knicks games they were forced to watch.
Yeah, this is the honors for the Carl Landry's block video (http://youtube.com/watch?v=-4XDxYVXSxk ) #67 - Most Viewed (Today) - Sports - Hong Kong #100 - Most Viewed (Today) - Sports - Australia #58 - Most Viewed (Today) - Sports - New Zealand
new zealand and australia both have a very large chinese population (asians too). that's probably why. as for mainland china, if it's not counted on youtube, it's probably in chinese sites.
I just checked wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia ): In Australia, after English, "The next most common languages spoken at home are Chinese".
I think its so awesome that I can go to another state or even city in this country and I could say something about the Rockets and a lot of people wouldn't know or care what I was talking about. But, if I went to an area of land as big as China, Argentina, or Africa there are probably more Rockets fans than there are NBA fans in the US. That might not actually be true but is vaguely possible just by crunching the numbers based on their large populations and a general knowledge of the process of globalisation. My inner Rockets fan would feel comforted if this were so.
The truth is, even a 9 years old could see it, the 'T.O.F.s' are the ones who are running rampage here lately (just see how they bent over backward to defend Tmac after his miserable first 2 games). The fact that you have no problem with them but keep knocking the 'Y.O.F.s' shows how biased and hypocritical you are.

man, no wonder the acronym is filtered. such a touchy subject. man, I sure hope my stupid joke (using the forbidden acronym) doesn't start a 5 page thread that will only annoy Clutch....and serve no other purpose. sigh. I feel like such a nube around the GARM nowadays, sometimes.
views from australia and NZ are exactly like a substantial portion of north american traffic to clutchfans.... chinese expats. there's a higher percent of chinese in australia than in the US something along the lines of 3x higher per capita population. and it's only chinese not "asian." no one outside chinese cares about yao and have the rockets as their favorite team. look how miniscule traffic is from japan, korea, tibet, vietnam etc not that the NBA is popular in any other major asian nation but even those countries people who are fans favor the lakers, knicks, etc. it makes me laugh when people go after chinese fans... they're the only other people in the world who support your team! why would you want to antagonize or mock them they're the only other people on earth who share your diehard enthusiasm for the rockets. I travel all over asia for work and people in say Japan basically dont know who tmac is and barely have a name recognition for yao... kind of like americans with a major asian star like mao asada. ive been to europe quite a bit too where the NBA is more popular than in asia and houston is far from a "popular" team.
It'd be like assuming we are a hockey country because we're close to Canada and look more or less alike. That's good to know.
Dude, I can only say that your point of view sucks and you don't know any basic knowledge of statistical profiling. The problem is not how many Japanese know about Rockets, but how many Japanese NBA fans know about Rockets. There are over 60 billion people on the world, you just can not make a name everywhere.
I would like to understand how the hostility towards the chinese fans came from too. Would someone please fill me in?
