In the midst of all this trade talk let me take you back nearly four years before I was born hehe. The Rockets posted a franchise record 156 points in a win over Denver (133) in the Mile High City. Maxwell lead the way with 26 shooting 4-9 from three, OT had his usual 20/10ish game with 24 and 11, our buddy at TNT Kenny Smith had 25 and the never forgettable Buck Johnson had 23 and 13 rebouds. Notice I didn't even mention Dream, as he was out with an injury (I don't remember what it was as I wasn't really alive yet) yet they still managed to score the most points in Rocket history. Just an interesting tidbit I wanted to discuss on here.
And This season's highest one I think is 140 against the Golden State. One of the most exciting games....those threes...man those threes!
That was an amazingly high scoring game, wasn't it? More like what you'd see in an All Star game in the '80's. -

He took an elbow in the eye from the Chicago Bulls' Bill Cartwright on January 3, suffering a blowout fracture of the bones that surround the eyeball. Olajuwon underwent surgery on January 14 and missed the Rockets' next 25 games, the longest idle stretch of his career. Although his average of 13.8 rebounds per game was better than any other player's, he failed to qualify for the leaderboard because he did not play in the required 70 games (only 56) or have the required 800 total rebounds (only 770). The seven-year veteran did qualify to rank among the blocked-shot leaders, finishing first in the league for a second straight year with 3.95 per game. Didn't know that was their highest scoring game but I can tell you from having watched it, it was boring. Those Nuggets didn't play a lick of defense under Doug Moe with little Michael Adams running the show up and down. That game is actually not rare in the basketball trading circuit so you should be able to get a copy for like $5. The game against Warriors this year was way more exciting with the amount of threes and embarrassment clearly visible. Back then those scores were not that extraordinary whereas today it's almost unthinkable, which also makes a huge difference. Can you imagine several teams scoring almost 120-130 on a nightly basis?
You remember well. That Nuggets team was the run-and-shoot of the nba and they played no D. Dream not being there probably facilitated the lack of all around D. That Nuggets team had high scores without a good offense. Extremely boring!
Was this game during their 15 game winning streak without Dream? Cartwrights elbow allowed Dream to finally realize his teamates could win too, and when Hakeem came back he was a much more willing passer. DD
They never won 15 in that year, only 13 and that was when Dream was already back. Where did your memory take you?
Not sure when that Nuggets game was. You're right that the Rockets played better than expected without him. And you're right that Hakeem played better when coming back, but the streak actually coincided with his return. His second game back is when they went on the 13 game win streak, and were 17-1.
So many seasons, so many games... without looking something up and going by memory, you can be close, and it's not that difficult to still get something wrong. DaDakota may not have been ballpark, but he was in the same city. ;-)- I loved Rockets basketball and the way the game was played back then. Sort of the tail end of '80's NBA.
