Rockets give up a package around T-Mac and Heat give up a package around Haslem, and Richardson, motivation: Rockets are missing Yao and their chances of contention this year, but they are still over luxury tax, so this way they still get expiring contracts for next year, yet don't lose as much money this year where they aren't competing for a title any way. (http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/po...on-is-desperate-to-reduce-luxury-tax-payments) Heat have their franchise player entering his prime, his frustrations are noted as they could not compete for the title with current title level. Adding potential in t-mac while basically only losing haslem in a valuable contributor and still getting more capspace to retain t-mac or even get more talent with the money in the summer. Shows wade the commitment to winning and a line up of Chalmbers, Wade, T-mac, Beasley, Jermaine O'neal... what to dou guys think?
No. T-Mac expires next season. At this point, unless we get a big name star for T-Mac, there is no use in trading him.
I agree, I like Haslems but i dont think this would make us any better. I see it as clogging up the PF Position. Also, I dont htink richardson would win us many more games.
the motivation isn't for players, its according to that article we are longing for relief from paying for luxury tax this year since we do not expect to compete for a title, so this is for financial reasons which brings us under teh cap and possible a first round pick on oppose to just going through the season, paying the tax, not making the playoffs or making the playoffs without making any noise there
Poor QRich, bet he'd love to hear he'd be traded for the 5th time before the regular season starts. But no, definitely not.
you have to understand its a business, wade it won't work, this trade isn't about richardson or whoever, its about rockets saving 10 million dollars for a year where i do think we can make playoffs, but won't make any noise in the playoffs, without yao we're not going to compete for a title, this loads and thickens our pockets this year, so when we have our comparative advantage(Yao) back we can spend and really be aggressive in surrounding him right next year
so we give up our biggest trade bait and/or potential signing to get another 4 to clog up our 4 spot even more and then a wing to stall the growth of Budinger and clog up the spot even more?? NO WAY.
Yup While it is true that their roster is filled with expiring contracts, we can do better than Rich and Has...
1. With McGrady, I think we can turn in a decent performance this year. With Haslem and QRich, we can't. 2. Whether McGrady comes through or not on the court, he's a significant trade chip or cap relief. We might get a pretty decent star to take McGrady's place in the offseason. Why would we throw that away for a couple of role-players? People are talking about making a run at Chris Bosh, but, no, Morey threw that away for Haslem and Rich? 3. If the Rockets were so desperate to avoid the luxury tax, they wouldn't have signed all these guys this offseason. I'm sure Morey would rather be under the threshold, but it seems like he has permission to go over. The Rockets are one team that is still making enough money to absorb the hit. 4. There are cheaper ways to take $5 million off of the roster, if that's needed. Send Barry and Cook to the Clippers along with some draft picks and cash. I mean, this proposed deal doesn't even get us under the threshold.
5. Between this thread and the Knicks one, I get the distinct feeling that there are a number of fans of other teams who think McGrady is going to come back and be his total bad-ass self again. But, they don't want to let on and hope to acquire him for a song, excusing their interest as a play for the 2010 cap space.
no i say we see how mcgrady does when he returns. i would hate to trade him too soon and he end up beasting
Trade doesnt work, Heat are over the cap just like the Rockets...adn the numbers dont work. Mcgrady ~23M Haslem adn Richardson = ~16M
