So this summer, I finally did something constructive with my time and designed some "Be Part of Something Big" billboards with Eddie Griffin on it. I posted them on the BBS: http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38378&perpage=30&pagenumber=2 The Rockets marketing people noticed them and decided to use this one: They are located at I-10 East at Waco Dr. and HWY 249 South of Cypresswood, and soon to go up at Southwest Freeway at Caroline. Anybody seen these around? I live all the way in Sugar Land and haven't got a chance to see them So anyway, they want to do a Rockets halftime feature on the board with me. I want to make the most of my few minutes of fame. What better place to ask for advice than here? I'm definitely going to give the props CC.net deserves. And of course a line or two about the board, but aside from that, I have no idea what else to say. Gimme some ideas! (This should be interesting.......)
Thats really cool, but im not sure what advice I should give you on what to say. Uhm... You could ask them if you could apply for there backup PG position.
I saw that billboard during the THanksgiving break when I visited Houston. That's so cool, RocketKid! Congratulations.
Why didn't they use mine that I did over the summer? But to his credit, he's been playing great this season.
I am sorry, but what was the purpose of those Ming pics? Anyways, that Griffin one has been up on I-10 since late October, I remember going to the preseson game vs. Philly is when I first noticed it. I just saw it today on 59 on the way home, on the opposite side of the freeway where they had the Francis board. Great stuff Rocketkid, when i saw it the first time, i SWORE to myself that I have seen it before and it was right here on the BBS! Also be sure to tell us on when its going to air so we can record it. It pisses me off that on the Midnight repeats, they skip the halftime segment
Tell them "Go Rockets!" , "Ming will bring the rings", "Francis and Ming are the next big thing" Give something that the rockets some heart.
Late October???? Man he just e-mailed me the other day. Ahhh well. Where exactly is the location of the 59 billboard? I need to go check it out. Thanks!
hey, they are not going to give you 15 minutes of fame, possibly 15 seconds. Just say how you found out about it and try to mention cc.net. other than that, try to get some freebies for yourself. This will be prerecorded right, with editing. So buy a ticket for that game, and ask to be part of the High Five club. Or ask for a floor pass for the last game or something cool like that. go for some freebies.
From the email, it sounds like i'll be getting a lot more than 15 seconds. They said I'll be talking about the board, how big a rockets fan i am, etc etc..... Yea, some freebies would be nice. I'd love to sit courtside with my family for a game. Maybe they'll hand me a nice package.
"talking about the board" you mean the Rockets billboard your designed or this board? anyhoot, there will be editing, so make certain you are good at what you want to be aired. I have no advice on that, but I thought that this moment is maybe a chance to ask for things that they readily give away--not floor seats. I meant a floor pass on some game when they are inviting fans down *after* the game. I think the Smeggy World Tour game they are doing that, and possibly the last game. Ask for a t-shirt, etc. Also, the High Five Club they give away and that gets you on the floor to high five the players during introductions. things to say to get aired? You can always make fun of Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley for dissing Yao...hehe. You could say, "Barkley doesn't understand that Being Part of Something Big has nothing to do with Kenny Smith's Ass"
Clutchcity highlights: First to know of Steve's trade to Houston via eavesdropping by a member. Board's opinion on the iso's. HP's UCLA cut. The board's huge new Chinese/Asian contingent. Still awaiting the unveiling of the new "movement" offense.
How about inviting some players to come to cc.net and have a nice chat with fans, since we fans really want to be part of something big. Wait...please say we're dying to be part of something big.
Its on 59 north heading towards downtown. Its right past Fannin on the left side (if head north). Very viewable and you cant miss it. I can take some pics of it and post it on here if you want, I pass by that board almost everyday.
Hey, if you could take some pics, that would be....terrrrrific. Mmmmmkay? Seriously, thanks for you effort!
Just to add my two cents -- from a marketing standpoint, it was extremely cool when everybody started creating their own versions of the billboards. And ... as for timing, the boards were scheduled to go in mid-November, but billboard companies always ask for a window of about 10 days either way based on weather. We contacted rocketkid after we saw his design here and asked if we could have permission to make it into a real billboard, and he was nice enough to comply. Nice job, rocketkid ... congrats again.
