I'm thinking about having a Rockets centric groom cake for a wedding in March of 2008. My future wife and I have attended many Rockets games, and one of our first dates was at a Rockets game, so we are both excited about having it as a theme.

I did a search and saw a few people have done Rockets themes for their groom cakes, but I haven't seen any pictures. I'd love to see how some other cakes turned out and hear about any reactions that you may have gotten at the wedding.

Also, are there any copyright issues I should be aware of using the Rockets logo or the court? I'd like to submit a design that won't put the cake maker at risk of a copyright infringement. I normally wouldn't think it would be a big deal, but I do recall certain problems Clutch had with the NBA a while back with photos.

Doesn't the poster Juan Valdez has something about cakes in his profile?

His signature has something about Urban Chef. I already have signed a contract for someone to make the cake. I'm looking for past Rockets cakes and the experience people had with them, and maybe even some design ideas from other people.

I had one in 2002. It was Chocolate w/chocolate icing and the Rockets logo (the one with the blue rocket on it) on top. Nobody said much about it..probably because I got married in Ft. Worth(Mavericks country)...the only person who mentioned it was from Houston & also a big Rockets fan.

Wasn't going to have a "fun" cake for the grooms cake at first..but I'm glad I did..I loved it.

Used too. My wife was running a wedding cake design company. But, she's out of the biz and teaching cooking classes now.

I don't think there's any copyright concerns to worry about. But, if you already have a cake-maker, you can just ask them.

My wife never did a Rockets cake. She's done Longhorns, Blue Devils, Cowboys, and a couple of others. They always got a good reaction (but most all her cakes did, so I don't know what that tells you).

My buddy just told me about his grooms cake a couple of days ago. I'd never heard of a cake for the groom. Is this a new tradition or something?

I was married 2 years ago, but I didn't have a cake for me. I was jacked! :D

The groom has the responsibility of the cake?

All you needs to be thinking about is that badunkadunk.

My wife's aunt made our cakes, my grooms cake was an Astros cake. Since all of love watching the Astros, including our 4 kids, it was a no brainer.

Thanks for the picture Zoork! Now I'm going to have to decide which logo to use! That's also the first time I saw a groom cake covered in cookies, all the pictures I've seen so far have strawberries.

Our caterer wouldn't do it because of copywright issues. Of course, she turned around and did a UT one.

    Cookies totally trump strawberries.

Yeah, our cake lady was pretty cool, she told us to do whatever we wanted. I think we had milk too, to go with the cookies! If you need me to send you a file with any of those logos that are on the cakes, just let me know.
