After this Brown fiasco, i feel like our organization has gotten burned quite a few times throughout it's history..i was wondering was there any incident where we got burned but came out with a better result?

My memory is the Webber thing when he was a FA. we ALL wanted him and he knew that and kept us on 'his list' of possible relocations. He toyed with us and some other teams but in the end just went towards the typical route--more money. But if we had signed webber we wouldn't have gotten the #1 pick and got Yao Ming. Right now, I wouldn't trade Yao Ming for Webber..actually i'd punch the person that would suggest something like that....

    so any thoughts?

I remember a few years ago ESPN announced a trade between the Rockets and Toronto for Damon Staudimire and Walt Williams. Of course, Portland heard this and came up with a better offer. Turned out to be a good thing when both of those guys went in the tank after that. Of course, Walt did his tanking here, unfortunately.

Nope - it was Elie, Willis and Price. Horry had already been traded away when all that happened.

I don't remember for whom the trade was, but I do know that Horry was long gone when this offer was on the table. And yes that would qualify as a "Thank God that trade didn't go through!!". Similar to the Rockets nixed trade of Sean Elliot for Horry and Bullard leading up to their first championship in 94'.

You guys are crazy. It was Horry and Mario Elie. This was before Rockets won their first championship.

Kevin Willis was traded to Toronto for draft picks!

Stoudamire wasn't even in the league yet before we won our 1st title.

The Stoudamire trade was proposed in January of 98 and the deal was Willis, Elie and Price for Stoudamire and Williams.

Willis was traded to Toronto AFTER that season.

I can probably find an article on it if you would like.

    That trade never involved Elie.

It was Elliott for Horry, Bullard and I believe some draft picks.

oh yea....if i remember correctly...wasn't Phil Jackson thinking about trading Pippen (when they were in chicago) for Horry at one time but we nixed the deal?....i remember it was going to be a straight up swap that supposed to happen before our championship run.

The year before our run, Horry was a rookie averaring 10/5. I doubt that the Bulls offered Pippen (18 pts, 8 rebs, 7 assists and 2 steals) for Horry straight up.

In that case I seriously doubt Chicago would trade Pippen. When Jordan was out Pip was putting up MVP type numbers and he was leading the Bulls. Horry wouldn't have been worth giving up your team leader for.

Well, who knows if he every actually thought about it. Whether he proposed the deal to us is another story. That would have been the most lopsided trade of all time and Phil would have been run out of town.

PS - I just browsed the Chronicle archives from 1992-1994 and found nothing on this. Where did you get this information from?
