Interesting. Didn't know that Rockets asked T-Mac and Gaines. And the other 2 are throwins. I guess it showed how much CD/JVG want to replace the existing backcourts.
That isn't what the article said. It said that they asked Orlando to include Gaines in the deal. I'm guessing that it was a given Howard would have to be in the deal for it to work and I'm sure the Rockets had Lue as a first choice given the loss of Francis. But, it is clear they thought that Gaines could have success here or they wouldn't have asked for him to be included.
poor gaines, jvg getting his hopes up like that... i hope he plays....well, or i would want him benched as well!
I was reading some info on him, and it mentioned that he is a Lakers Fan. Also averaged over 3 turnovers a game in his senior season. He finished 4th on Louisville's all time career scoring list behind 2 guys I never heard of and Pervis Ellison.
Don't really expect him to play much. He'll have the same role he had last year. Barry (hopefully) and Lue will take most of the minutes at PG, with Barry eating up any minutes at backup SG. Only way I see him playing is a mismatch where there's a big guard scoring at will on us, someone like Jamaal Crawford. He does have good size though. Very strong, tall, and athletic. A Gaines/McGrady backcourt could be defensively dominant in a couple of years. Gaines still needs to work on his game. He would've benefitted by going to the Bobcats, where he'd get minutes and the chance to showcase himself.
I disagree, and once the playoffs come around, He'll be contributing as a spark off the bench. He'll be one of our key role players this year.
I waws thinking he would be good for some defense... and hopfully shoots better than A Griffin (or at least is available - like A.G. WASN'T last year)
If true: Enter Houston. The Rockets asked that he be included in a seven-player trade ... Then Rox must have seen something in him. Good, better than pure cap fodder.
I see him getting more playing time because I think they will probably use him at both guard and small forward positions depending on machups. But more at the 2. He is a real asset and could become great guy coming off the bench.
Boki played significantly more this year than he had his first season, and he looked better for it. I'm sure it can do the same for Gaines (hopefully not at the expense of Boki's playing time, though).
Actually, I see his greatest impact as being a tall PG. Being able to see over your defender and dump and easy pass to the big fella down low is gonna be a plus for us. Remember Horry at 6'10, playing small forward and dumping relatively easy passes down low to Dream? That's where I see a big plus in this guy.
